How many ounce of hops will each container hold? And does the grain have to be in a bag, or can it be loose?
Kurt Dubendorf on Feb 18, 2018
BEST ANSWER: From the Brewie User Manual,

2.3.3. Hops
Never place any solids into the hop tank without a hop cage. Place hops only into hop cages.
Only Brewie hop tanks should be used with Brewie.
Under no circumstances place loose hops into Brewie.
Recommended cage capacity:
Pellet: 30 g
Leaf: 15 g

Yes, a bag must be used,

Ingredients that you put into the mashing bag such as malt, corn, et cetera are defined as
Only Brewie mashing bags should be used with Brewie. Never place any solids into the mashing
tank without bagging it!
Malt or other ingredients placed in the machine, outside the mashing bag can cause clogging and
voids warranty!
Do not reuse damaged bags!
There are two types of mashing bags:
1. Single-use Mashing Bag
Brewie Pads contain a single-use, eco-friendly bag. Do not use damaged bags! Do not reuse this
Brewie bag. After brewing, throw away the used bags. Treat waste properly.
2. Standard Mashing Bag
The three Zipper mashing bags, delivered with Brewie as well as available for separate purchase,
are reusable. Do not reuse damaged bags!
This system is complete and may be using for beginners and experienced ? When be available?

was worth the wait, totally
I've received my unit in mid-September and got to tell, I'm impressed. once the sw is up-to-date and the machine's calibrated, there's virtually no issue - I've been trying to reproduce my older recipes and i can't tell how much time it saves me...

Not worth the money
I've been brewing for more than 10 years, so the Brewie concept had a lot of merit for me. After a lot of consideration i decided to purchase one. Upon receipt O unpacked the machine and set it up. I performed the required first wash. Then I proceeded to enter some of my own recipes thank wanted to brew. In the second recipe the touchscreen froze, and that was it. I restarted the machine several times, to no avail. I then contacted the Brewie company through their website to make a warranty claim. They requested a video, which I sent them. Their reply was that it runs on their software version 2.7 and that it will update to 3.0 when the machine is turn on. Well, I did and it didn't, even though it does check and update the software when started. I will return the Brewie to More Beer for a refund. My brewie became a boat anchor before it even brewed one beer. I'm going back to my old all grain setup and brew the old fashion way.

The software of the Brewie is not developed enough, and the machine was rushed to market.
Save your hard-earned money and do not buy one.

Hope they stand by warranty
1. There is no app and the site where you are supposed to get it is "under construction" I've contacted Brewie and have 3 emails asking if I've received an email inviting me to be a beta tester, however, have not received an invitation.
2. I hope this isn't $1500 down the drain and this 75 lb machine is going to be hell to ship back. Mine stopped working after my 3rd brew. My previous sessions worked great and love the convenience of the brew process & cleaning cycle. I was running the sanitize cycle after my 3rd brew and it made it about 50% thru it & the machine died. It wont turn on at all. 1-star rating as for this amt of money it should hold up better

Super Easy (especially cleaning)- Brewie website, app needs work
I have only brewed once on this machine, but I have run a few cleaning cycles. I wanted to post a review if anyone else is on the fence- I think they are about out of the original Brewie.

There is a lot of negative press out there about the Brewie. Most home-brew forums blast it and the customer support. I wanted to provide my feedback although this is based on one brew so far. I worry that I will have some of the same issues I have read about down the line. I hope the turn-around time is better at the U.S.A. Warranty Center than I have heard about. Of course- I really hope I don’t need it at all!

*Note- the BEST thing you can do is ensure your machine is updated with the latest software! I think almost all of the issues have been fixed via software updates. Make sure you update, then power down, and re-update to ensure you have the latest software!

I picked this up on MoreBeer's amazing Deal of the Day (it was a VERY good deal! Thank you MoreBeer! I think a few other people grabbed it, too). I had been watching Brewie (along with a few other automated machines) and deciding if I wanted to take the plunge into home brewing.

Yes- I am brand new- so take this review with a grain of salt. I have been reading and studying and waiting for the correct machine, as I want to focus on crafting my own recipes vs. all the labor (and, honestly, expense) involved in doing it "the hard way".

-Cleaning on this thing is a breeze! Seriously- the only real effort required is a sponge and a little elbow grease. I would compare it to doing dishes by hand vs. a using a dishwasher. There is an amount of work involved in both- but one is overall a lot easier.
-It did achieve a full rolling boil. I had read this is an issue for some.
-The machine ran as promised- I choose to add water manually. It would tell me when. Mashing, Sparging, Boiling, Hops addition- all automatic. Nothing I had to do.
-Entire brewing process was about 4.5 hours.
-I did a pre-programmed Brewpad kit ("Call me Grainy")
-This machine really does do it all- it heated the water, mashed, sparged, and boiled- all in the machine! Then it cools the wort via an internal chiller (counter flow I would assume but not sure).
-Did I mention that cleaning is very easy? Still the best feature IMO!

-No “Apps” yet available
-Website is not very well built. Hard to locate support topics and/or they don’t exist. (I went on-line to register my Brewie- but there is no link to do so! However- I did email the information, and received a response back acknowledging the registration a few days later.)
-The false bottom was bent when the brew was over (see picture I attached)
-Heavy This machine is around 70 pounds! (The new Brewie+ is lighter by about 15 I have read).
-It is not “set it & forget it”- the machine will ask for your input between stages- plan on checking in every so often to ensure you tap proceed.
-The Wifi would not let me enter a character from my wifi router-and I did not want to change all the passwords on all my other devices- but this was solved with a hot-spot on my cell phone.
-There is minor marking on the tank bottoms- see pictures. I have seen these types of markings in "horror" pictures from the forums on Brewie. I hope this is normal.
-The wort out was about 78 degrees or so. I am hoping I can adjust the cooling time on my next brew.

Overall, I gave this 4 of 5 stars, but only because of the lack of an App and the poor website. I will update down the line if that rating changes (if I can). I think a lot of issues arose from early software, and people programming the machine on their own first, before seeing it in action as planned via a Brewpad kit. I would strongly suggest you first do a Brewpad to see how it is programmed.

If you are thinking about the Brewie- I say grab the older model, as the software is still updated, and you will save just about enough money for that stainless conical you know you want! (or keezer build, etc.). Just make sure you have a friend to help you move it, or you are strong enough to lift 70 awkward pounds on your own.

Hello Nathaniel - If you carefully follow the directions, Bar Keeper's Friend should take care of that discoloring and restore to a polished surface.

Huge time saver!, Expensive, Heavy, Cool gadget.
I would give it between a 3.5 and 4 stars. I got my brewie in June 2017, no I did not order it though morebeer it was directly though brewie. Ever since I've got my brewie I haven't used my kettle, brewie is a HUGE TIME SAVER. I've only made about 4 batches so far but I plan on making tons more! With that being said there has been issues, 99% of them for me was resolved via software over the past year. When I recieved mine they were on version 1.9 and currently it's 2.9. If you purchase brewie my best advice is to not touch it or mess around with it during your first few brews until you become familiar with it. When I first got it I always thought it was messing up however it was user error and me being impatient. I have heard many complaints and problems with brewie ranging from, overflow, 99% boil issue, stuck mash that warps the false bottom and burns the bag, dead screen, the X of death. These are probably the most common issues. I haven't experienced any however I think my last brew might have experienced the 99% problem but I won't know until my next brew. While there are many reviews of negative experience, just remember that there's most likely equally the same amount for positive experience. Just to correct a comment below, if brewie has a power outage during a brew, when you restart it it'll prompt you to continue where it left off. Every update brewie adds more features, makes it more stable (most of the time) and adds new recipes. Brewies customer service needs some serious help but ive always got a reply from them within a weeks time however, ive never had to get a repair or warranty anything. While I don't know how long my brewie will last, I've enjoyed it so far. I've actually pre ordered the brewie+ hoping all the negative things I've found with the brewie to be resolved in the B+.

The best machine out there? I thinks so!
I've had my Brewie since December, and I must say I love it. I've been brewing beer at home for ages, and since my kids were born I've had little time to brew with my original setup, so I decided to invest in this awesome machine in order to save time on the brewing process. I just start the machine then I do chores around the house or play with the little ones while Brewie takes care of the rest. And I must say I was skeptical at first but the beer that I brewed was exceptionally good tasting. I hope that one day I can teach my son how to brew with this machine. He' only 3, so I'll have to wait a bit though :)

I love the way it works
I’m proudly owning this beauty since last September. Recently I’ve brewed 5-10 times - it’s very easy to set the machine and during brewing, I can do literally what I want because it doesn’t need my presence.

When they say automatic thats what they mean. Once you push start you no longer have control of anything. If there is a power glitch or fluctuation, you cannot recover the auto process. Ruined a entire batch of grain & wort. Instructions are next to worthless. Website promises stuff they do not deliver. I think this machine has great potential but right now it needs help. Would not recommend a novice purchase it. I have to keep my manual stuff around in case of power failures or glitches.

Had some issues, but I'm satisfied with the end result
I've had my Brewie for quite a while now, but only got around to brewing about two months ago. Work-related trips had me out of the house all summer, but once I was home I immediately turned my attention to my brand new beer brewing machine. I must confess, I?'m a beginner in brewing, but an expert in consuming beer. But I always wanted to try my hand at brewing and after extensive research, I arrived at the conclusion that Brewer would be the perfect machine for me. Anyhow, to make a long story short: I followed the instructions, which were fairly easy to do and straightforward and brewed a Rusty Rex for my drinking pleasure. It came out with an OG of 1.050, spot on (according to their recipe), and as it turns out, my friends can smell craft beer from miles away and flocked to my garage to taste what I made.
Now onto my personal opinions regarding the machine and the company:
As I wrote, the machine is easy to use, and the fact that it cleans itself is pretty neat. Their website contains tons of useful information for beginners, and the beginner's guide tells you everything you need to know. The app is sorely missing, but one can manage without it, but it will be a great addition for sure.
The setup and calibration process took me a while because the scale I had wasn?'t measuring properly and at first I poured less water into the tank then was asked for. But you only need to do it once to start brewing. Plus, the feeling you get when you drink the beer you made yourself is priceless in my opinion. I have a garage where I do my brewing and I recommend you set up a separate space from your living area that has a water pipe to start brewing.
The machine itself is gorgeous, I really like the simple aesthetics of it. It?'s definitely the centerpiece of my garage now. I have it set up on a table with wheels on its legs so I can move it around more easily.
The guys at the Brewie were extremely helpful, though it took me a while to get in touch with them. I was angry at first, but the people there were really helpful once we started communicating and they assuaged all my trepidations, but I still had to wait a long time for my Brewie to get here, which was frustrating, but in the end, it was worth it. I?'d like to give a shout out to all the people who work there at customer support, they're great guys.
I?'m looking forward to trying many more pads and beers from them. All in all, I think it?'s worth it to buy this machine if you?'re a beer enthusiast like myself.
