  • SRM (Color Range): 10-11
  • IBUs: 21-25

To find our yeast recommendations, choose your preferred kit option above and then select the drop-down menu under “Yeast Options”.  For more info, click on the recommended yeast(s) below in the “You Might Also Need” section below. All grains will come milled, unless you select unmilled base malts.

Does the kits include hops?
Tom Culpepper on May 20, 2023
BEST ANSWER: Yes! The More Beer team does a fantastic job with these kits--I sometimes buy them just to get an idea about what a beer I haven't yet brewed should be like. Take a look at their online listings for beer kits and check mid-way down on the Oktoberfest page for a Recipe Sheet. All you need to add to the kit is the yeast you like to use.
Would NovaLager yeast under pressure at 72F be acceptable for this kit?

What a beautiful amber gold!
I used Wyeast 2206 & Tettnager instead of Saaz. I came out with a beautiful amber gold color. Best looking dark lager I've ever brewed.

Crowd pleaser!
I brewed this beer as a "mock"-Toberfest. Under pressure with ale yeast at room temp. Very drinkable beer.

Great Oktoberfest
I fermented with first gen WLP820 for about 3 weeks with a two stage starter, followed by a 7 day D-rest. Racked to secondary, fined with Gelatin then cold crashed. Used BeerSmith 3 for calcs and water profile (amber full). OG 1.057, FG 1.014, Eff 86.2%. Fermentation temp at 50 deg f, d-rest at 65. Started d-rest at gravity of 1.019. Cold crashed at 35 for 7 days, then conditioned in keg at 33 deg f for about 3 months. Carbed at 2.4 vols for 3 weeks, serving temp 41 deg F. Overall profile is very smooth and is almost as easy to drink as water. Has a subtile yet interesting unsweet tea like profile. Mild sweetness on the pallet which is very inviting, although it leaves a minor soft silky mouth fill. Wish it were a bit more malty. Overall a great recipe, better than any store bought! It is the best "packaged" recipe I have found. Gave it 4 starts because it is top notch. Still looking for a goto recipe that is over the top delicious. For an O-fest, this has become my new baseline to compare others against. Cheers!

Gonna brew 2 batches next year
GREAT fest beer. .. gets me excited about fall. Tasted it against a few commercial version of oktoberfest beers, and it's close to a dead ringer for Sam Adams octoberfest. A little lighter in color and a bit heavier in mouthfeel and a better head and lacing and mine didn't quite come out quite as clear... thinking I got some chill haze. Not slowing down the consumption tho. ??
Pic doesn't seem to cooperation about being posted ..sorry.

This can be a nice lager!
This is the first Octoberfest Brew that I've been satisfied with. If you have incomplete fermentation, I think this would disappoint. I really wanted this to work out so I double pitched the white labs Octoberfest yeast (2 packs) and made a starter, and gave the wort pure O2 for oxygenation. Long, steady fermentation at 55-58. Also, (per instructions I think) I pitched at 70 on purpose and then put in fridge to bring it down to 55 after about 6 hours. This got the fermentation started faster than it would have otherwise. Mine lagered in secondary for 3 months and then was kegged, so I didn't have to worry about carbonation. If you bottle it, I don't see how you can let it clear out and sit for so long and then get CO2 conditioning in bottle without adding some dry yeast at bottling.

Overall I was surprised at the simplicity of this kit, and the lighter-side clean (and good Marzen/Octoberfestbier) not like the heavier-on-malt Octoberfest that you might find now. I would let those steeping grains sit at 170 longer than usual to get as much red color as possible.

Spot On
This beer turned out fantastic. The comment I received most was, "Wow, this tastes just like an Octoberfest." That was what I was looking to produce so it confirmed the recipe was spot on for the style. The only adjustment I made was to the water profile. I start with RO water and add salts per the style of beer I am looking to create. The rest was all More Beer. I anticipate entering this into the National Homebrewers Competition.

A big hit at the Christmas party!
I brewed this beer in late September, let it lager for the month of October. put in the keg, carbonated it and just let it rest thru November. (OK I had a few glasses of it so, I'm weak). I brought this keg along with a Porter to my daughters Christmas party. We had folks there who were craft beer drinkers and some who were not. All I can say is folks raved about it and the keg(5 gallons) was all but empty when I brought it home. I set the kegs up in the garage so they would stay cool and figured that no one would make the effort to traverse from the basement (where the bar was) to the garage to get beer when all the action was in the basement....wrong! the line went from the garage and into the living room so they could pour themselves another lager! I will be brewing this again for next Christmas for sure as it was the talk & hit of the party!
