Description

Oak Chips are a fast and economical way to add oak barrel flavor to any beer.

Oak Chips are made from seasoned American and French Oak staves which are chipped down and convection-toasted to create flavors similar to what a comparably toasted barrel would impart. The available toast levels are Medium, Medium +, and Heavy.

It's important to understand that each toasting level creates different flavors in the oak; not a greater intensity of impact in your beer. Don't think of them as weak, normal & strong; they're each a different flavor profile.

Heavy Toast French Oak chips will impart strong flavors of Clove, Spice, Smoke & Butterscotch; along with a small amount of Vanilla & Coconut flavor.

Because of the high surface area, oak chips can extract quickly and care should be taken not to overdo it. Taste your beer frequently after the first week of contact and be ready to rack off the oak chips.

Suggested Dosage is 1-2 oz per 5 gallons.

Good product but mistake in packaging
The chips were good. I use them in my fermenter to help drive off some of the "green" flavors in the must when fermenting. I was disappointed with the package however. Most of the time Morewine is excellent but this time I was disappointed to find that my package of chips that was supposed to contain 454-grams of chips only contained 442-grams. If I hadn't had to split the package between two fermenters I probably wouldn't have noticed. Batch #56999

Great stuff. I use French Heavy Toast.
Good product, give great complexity to my homemade grape wine. I ferment grapes on skins and use the oak in fermentation stage.
Then after 40 day racking I add oak at a rate of 6 oz for every 10 gals. This year I made 40 gals of Zinfandel,Syrah,Barbera blend back in Sept. Wine will now sit on oak which I put into straining bags for easy removal for approx 60 days until next racking.
I taste every 2 weeks and May remove earlier if desired oak flavor is achieved.
