Our new barrel washer is a back saver. We've done the He-Man thing and lifted barrels all over the place. As a result we've also been laid up in bed with a screaming lower back.

Designed to be used with standard hose pressure. Not intended for use with pressure washers.

After using designs that require you to lift barrels onto them we knew there had to be a better way. We designed our own simple washer that is inexpensive and flexible. This is one of the benefits of having a test winery and a fabrication shop!

With this design you can wash barrels via two methods.

Method 1: Wash barrels while they are on the rack. Spin them when they are empty and insert this wand through the bung hole.
Method 2: If you move barrels not on racks, roll the barrel till the bung hole is parallel to the ground and insert the spray wand. Continue to rotate the barrel, with wand inside, till you cannot go any further. The bung hole will now be pointed almost directly down. To keep the barrel from rolling place a chalk block (any block will work) on the other side to keep the barrel in place. The photo shows the angle the washer would be at if used in method 2. Because the bung hole in the barrel is not facing directly down all you need to do when you pull the washer out is to rotate the barrel down for 2 seconds and the small remaining amount of water(less than a pint) will drain out. This is a great method to avoid lifting barrels and to be able to clean them by yourself.

How would this work on a 7.5 gal barrel?
Jesus Vanoye on Dec 2, 2020
BEST ANSWER: Depends on bung hole size
We have a few barrels that size, tried 2; it fit 1, a bit too big on the other.
What flow rate and pressure does the head work with? I bought it recently and works great with my garden hose but want to use it with a pump for a different application and need to know what specs to aim for. THanks!
Tony Zafirakos on Aug 14, 2021
BEST ANSWER: I also use with garden hose and it works well. I’ve measured roughly 10gpm @ 60 psi on my 3/4” spigot. Since I’m sure it was designed with the hose spigot application in mind, and most residential spigots are typically assumed to provide 7-8 gpm @ 40 psi, I’d shoot for at least that, or play it safer and shoot for 10gpm @ 60psi.

Good washer
I purchased this barrel washer a few years ago and overall have been pleased with the results. Really, my only complaint is that it does not fit through the bung hole of one of my barrels that has a # 9 bung hole. The spinner head is about 1 3/8 in. in diameter. The bung hole is bigger than that on the outside of the barrel, but the interior diameter is smaller (the hole is tapered). So you have to be careful when measuring a bung hole to see if this will fit.

Pretty Nice Tool
I just received the barrel washer and completed setting it up with the hose bib/FPT adapter. I will use it this weekend and post my experience. I do have a note for your fabricator: the inside of the triangular foot needs to be deburred. One edge on my unit had a somewhat sharp burr from the shear when the material was cut.

Not worth the expense
Sturdy and well built. Main problem is that the spray head didn't spin. Morewine sent me an other free spray nozzle but still doesn't spin. I have excellent household water pressure.

Works as advertised but the device leaks like crazy. I get soaked every time I use it. It not the hose connection but the device itself.

Response from MoreFlavor
We are sorry to hear of the trouble you're having with the barrel washer leaking. Are you using an appropriate adapter and plumbers tape to connect your hose to the 3/4" pipe thread on the barrel washer? We hope you can get it set up in a way that you won't get soaked every time.

Barrel washer
Works well but could be better if your water pressure is pretty high. Seems to clean well and loosen debris from the inside.

Good washer at a great price
Works well once you buy the correct fittings to hook it up to you water source. The one thing that could be improved is the width of the foot. It is too narrow for the washer to actually stand up on it.

Great Barrel Washer
I ordered the barrel washer for home wine making and it works great. It attaches to a standard garden hose fitting. You'll need decent pressure to spin the top, but as long as you have that it does a great job a washing the complete barrel. Shipping was super fast too. I would purchase again.

solid stainless construction
It's a well made product with nice machined parts and welds. It's a little tall for a 15 gallon barrel, but it still works -- it does fit through the opening and it did a nice job cleaning out the sediment.

In the original washer I received, the head didn't spin. It's not clear why -- there was no obvious problem with it. But MoreWine promptly replaced the problem head and the new one works well. Overall, it's good product and MoreWine has very good service.
