Description

Finally--a multi-head Counter Pressure filler at an affordable price point!

The Micro Filling Systems 4 Head Counter Pressure Filler works similarly to any other counter pressure filling device out there, but with greater ease and at a fraction of the cost of a custom built manual system or the semi and fully automated systems. Designed with the single worker in mind, our system requires only the minimum amount of handling per bottle.

Unlike most other manual models where all the bottles are loaded at once and then the filling unit is clamped down on them before the filling process can begin, the Micro Filling Systems 4 Head Counter Pressure Filler allows the worker to load from the bottom and fill each bottle individually and immediately. This allows some bottles to be filling while others are being loaded, thus reducing down time as the worker no longer has to wait for all the bottles to be filled before pulling them off the system to be capped. This workflow dramatically increases the number of bottles you can fill per hour! The height of the filling heads is easily adjusted by loosening a knob on either side of the unit and moving it up or down to fit a variety of bottle sizes and even growlers. Please note that growlers will require a larger diameter bung--please measure your growler's mouth diameter and find the appropriate bung here.

Solid
We're using this for limited specialty releases of barrel aged beers, wild beers and some other random things. It's far from quick, though once dialed in you can get pumping out 8 bottles a minute. Very easy to change between bottle sizes.

Update with parts I used to upgrade
Here is a list of parts that I used to upgrade this thing.
4-head manifold
https://www.micromatic.com/beer-manifolds/4-way-beer-manifold-w-one-barbed-fitting-2841
Shut off for each manifold line
https://www.micromatic.com/shut-offs/straight-shutoff-valve-304-stainless-steel-7419-1
PRVs These are not the best but much better than the other ones. They are not stainless so you have to make sure they are clean and dry after each use. We usually leave them wide open afterwards.

Gas manifold

We bought all of our stainless steel beer fittings and tees from micro matic as well.
If anyone knows where to get parts for the 3-way valves let me know I haven't found them yet I would like to have a set on stand by.

After some upgrades it works
I was fortunate enough to read the other reviews prior to purchasing this model. I went ahead and bought a beer manifold from micro-matic as to fill each head individually rather than in-series as it is designed. I did the same with CO2. Once you get it put together (there are no instructions). The beverage lines are NOT 1/4" barbs they are 1/8" I had to replace all of them because I use 1/4" beer line. I am working to replace the adjustable PRVs with a better model. I will update this review and Post the parts I purchased to make things easier for future buyers. For the price it cannot really be beat. It takes 2 People one guy filling and capping the other rinsing and casing. We are able to fill 8-10 cases an hour which is significantly better than what we could do with separate counter pressure fillers.

Machine is fine. Customer service is terrible.
I received this product. Everything works fine. A lot of the equipment and parts are very cheap. The pressure release valves are the worst part of the machine. I called when my original ones were not working and they sent me new ones, but of course the new ones were identical to the old ones and they also worked terribly. I called customer service to get any recommendations on replacing the pressure release valves and the woman on the phone was incredibly rude. She offered no alternatives and told me that my product was the problem. She hung up on me when I thanked her for her "flexibility" because she offered me no other alternative solutions after I spent $2000 on this machine. So overall the machine works fine, customer service is terrible and I am left to figure out another option for pressure release valves.

Great product
We are a small brewery and needed something just like this. After getting a few upgraded parts to our original machine we are easily doing 600 bombers in a day with 1 trained guy. This is a fantastic machine at this level. It requires practice to build up speed but if we needed more and added a second guy I am sure we could get to 1000 bottles in a day or more. Thanks for offering this and Rob thanks for your suggestion.

A work in progress
We're a start-up craft brewery and had great hopes for this unit. The price point seemed a bit on the high side given that it is a little more than a well engineered stand for off-the-shelf counter pressure fillers.

The fillers: The bleeder valves on these fillers are awful and do not lend themselves to reproducible filling. In theory you should be able to set the bleed on your valve, adjust the CO2 pressure on the flush side (slightly lower than the filling side) and then just fill-and-go. Not the case. The valves are engineered to such poor tolerances that just bumping them (not rotating them) will result in different rates of bleed. This translates into a change in fill rate. Too fast and you have too much foaming/off-gassing. Too slow and you end up throwing off the rhythm of the fill and it becomes a pain to coordinate the filling of the bottles. Initial runs with some alternative valves have been very promising. We have some fine adjust bleeder valves on order and will put them on for a run next week.

The plumbing - fill lines are in series: As noted by the other reviewer, the beer lines come plumbed in series, this means that the heads closest to the beer input get filled preferentially. With this arrangement you can kiss the expectation of being able to fill 4 bottles at the same time good-bye. Now of course, filling four bottles at a time can be a bit of a handful with full bottle removal, hand off to crowner and sani'd bottle placement but who knows, you might be more coordinated than me. To fix this we've split the beer in-put line at the BBT so that we have two lines that each serve two heads of the filler. This has alleviated the whole issue with the stock series arrangement from the equipment manufacturer.

The plumbing - fill line size: So the stock beer line size on this unit was way to big for us. It resulted in excessive bubbling in the line before beer reached the fill heads. I believe that the line provided was around 5/16 ID, even though the barbs going into the filling head are closer to 1/4". We put 1/4" lines on when we switched from a series to a split arrangement and it has resulted in a significant decrease in bubble formation.

To summarize, in our hands this unit has required some reworking and with better bleeder valves we believe that the unit will be able to achieve the level of reproducibility we require. Whether it's a complete wash or not remains to be seen but the tinkering we've had to do so far has cost us time, money and beer. As a side note it would have been really helpful if more than 9 seconds, of the 60 second product video, were devoted to demonstrating the filler in action.

Adequate yet flawed
We have use this filler on three seperate bottling runs now and although better than using a single filler gun, the setup of this filler is flawed. The frame components are very nice on the unit. Wish there were less threaded parts and more Sanitary TC but oh well. The beer line in only comes from one direction and is plumbed "series" style- meaning the fourth filler head which is furthest away doesn't fill as fast as the first filler head and the same goes for the upstream third and second fillers. This means realistically you only fill two bottles at a time. We have made modifications to make this unit work properly the way it is described since then but if you don't have the parts, pieces, or time you may end up being very disappointed with this filler. It seems designed for ambitious amateurs not professionals and shouldn't be on the "pro" section of the site. Plus the factory is so back logged you won't receive it for about two months even though the site says 2-3 weeks here.
