Description

  • Mill your own grains on brew day for increased freshness and higher efficiency!
  • Adjustable gap setting allows you to fine tune your preferred crush level and adapt to the kernel size of different malts
  • 12 TPI knurl to efficiently pull grain through rollers while leaving hull intact to form an excellent filter bed for sparging
  • 3 roller mills are more effective at cracking the husk of the grain and offer better crushing performance in a single pass
  • Included crank handle can be detached to power the driven roller with an electric drill or motor

Mill your own grains for ultimate freshness with the MaltMuncher three roller grain mill.  Includes a 12 lb hopper, adjustable rollers, and hand crank. The handle can be removed to use the mill with a drill. The MaltMuncher is backed by a one year warranty and is built to last with rollers made from cold rolled steel.  The body and hopper is made from 6061 grade aluminum. The optional PPE base board is much stronger than comparable particle board or plywood bases and makes for a secure platform to set on a bucket.

Do you love to make your own equipment?  Make an amazing motorized mill with the optional MaltMuncher high torque motor  designed to work with the Maltmuncher 3 roller grain mills.

Features:

  • Comes with 12 lb hopper and crank handle
  • Great for use with a power drill
  • Cold rolled steel rollers sized at 5" long by 1.25" diameter
  • Adjustable rollers at both ends to move the gap from 0" - 0.063"
  • If motorized we recommend 200 rpm
  • 12 TPI knurl to effectively pull grain through the rollers while still leaving the hulls intact to later form an excellent filter during the sparge
  • 12 mm crank shaft

Kegland Part Number: KL03261

Please note: This mill is designed for use with brewing grains only. It will not work for cracking whole kernel corn.

Can anyone confirm if this model has ball bearings or if it has bronze bushings?
Joel D on Dec 26, 2019
BEST ANSWER: looks like ball bearings
Does anyone have directions on setting the roller gaps?
42X on Jan 5, 2020
BEST ANSWER: I use the .036” setting, which is slightly smaller than 1mm. This setting gives me a nice grain crush with overall good efficiency and no problems with a stuck sparge at this setting.
Can grain be finely crushed with this mill, like flour?
Stefan M on Jan 8, 2021
BEST ANSWER: No. BUt you can get a nice fine crush, about.025", or credit card width, .030. Perfect for my use. What a great mill, never will I go back to a two roller mill.
What are the vertical dimensions with the hopper attached?
Aaron N on Mar 29, 2020
BEST ANSWER: Mounted to a 1/2 inch base, vertical height is 13 1/2” with the standard hopper and 23” with the extended hopper.
What size drill is needed?
Lenny N on Jan 14, 2020
BEST ANSWER: 1/2 " chuck - variable or low speed is recommended. Anchor down this mill very well when motorizing - the 1/2" drill has a lot of torque and could rotate the whole mill (rather than the rollers). Before motorizing, hand crank it empty to make sure the rollers are aligned then add a few oz. of grain to check it again. Then use the drill.
Will this grind corn?
Van M R on Mar 22, 2022
BEST ANSWER: No, it’s not recommended for corn.
What size bolts are required to mount the mill to the base?
Gerald K on Feb 25, 2021
BEST ANSWER: My unit is about 18 months old and assuming they haven't changed, they are metric M6 x 1.0 bolts. The 1.0 is the pitch not the length. The length will depend on how thick of a board you use. The threads are about 3/4 inch deep into the mill. My bolts were 30mm with a 1/2 inch board and I had to use a large nut as a spacer to keep the bolt from bottoming out before it was tight, but it was what I already had at available. Drilling the 4 holes in the exact place is made easier if you do a rubbing on the mill and use it as a template to drill the holes. Good luck.
Could someone be kind enough to check the roller dimensions on this mill? (I have seen both 5" x 1.25" and 6" x 1.5") Thanks
Mike Goetzke on Jan 20, 2021
BEST ANSWER: The rollers are 1.375" x 6" long. The thread count for the bolts are not widely available and I have not been able to locate bolts to fasten the rig to a base. I would not buy this again.
I currently have the motorized MaltMuncher 2-roller model, powered by a motor (item #MILL705). If I ever want to swap out the 2-roller mill for this 3-roller version, is it a direct replacement? Specifically, is the axle/shaft of the 3-roller version at the same height and extends the same length away from the body as the 2-roller?
Daniel C on Oct 29, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Daniel - I would guess the driver roller is the same height, but wouldn't be offset like the two roller.
What is the height of the driveshaft from the base to the center of the driveshaft (in mm)?
Don T on Mar 22, 2023
BEST ANSWER: Approximately 66 mm

Need directions added to the shippmen6
Have only used it twice and it seems to do a good job. The reasoning behind my low rating is there were no directions in the kit, had search through you tube videos until I found one that started from the beginning on the assembly. My second point of distinction there are directions how to set the gap, could not find anything definitive on the internet. I muddled through it but not sure if the gap is set correctly.

Well built grinder.
Easy to use with a cordless drill. Grinds smoothly. Can be adjusted for more or less coarse depending on grain needs.

Replacing two roller mill that’s 10 yrs old. This has three rollers. Looks very sturdy and had great reviews, so I purchased it. Can’t wait to try!

Good but needs work.
I put it together but haven't used it yet. I don't like how it does not come with instructions.... i had to be figuring it out like a puzzle for a good hr.... I had to make the board to stand it on a bucket wich is not bad but i had to guess what size bolts to add underneath because the mill does not come with them. 5 stars on the function, 3 stars on the setup.

Nice mill!
Easy to put together, just look up a Youtube video if you can't figure it out on your own. Easy to use and adjust the gap once you know the trick (you turn the adjustment bolts opposite from each other, watch the video if you can't figure it out). The main problem I had with it was that if you tighten the eye bolts too tight, it will prevent the third roller from rolling and the mill won't work, I spent about 45 mins trying to figure that one out, so I took off a star.

Good 3 roller for the money.
I've only used it once, but pretty impressed with this mill on that brew day. This replaces my 10 year old Barley Crusher. About the only negatives are lack of instructions and it's made in China. Pretty easy to figure out by using some of the videos on YouTube as a guide.

setup fail
Well first off this thing works great if you can get it put together with zero instructions and no instructions on how to adjust the thing. Also do not wait until your brew day to put it together. I had to run to the hardware store since it did not have the hardware to mount this to the surface that is sold separately. The small rubber gasket falls off very easily.

Game changer
I purchased this mill after years of frustration with my BC mill. The BC served me well for 10+ years, but the rollers wore down and it would anger me more than anything else. Enter this mill. Two words: Game Changer. This mill rips through grain. Assembly was easy despite the lack of instructions; most of it was common sense. Setting the mill gap took a bit to figure out, but once I realized how the cams move the adjustable roller it made sense. The .032 setting made for a perfect crush for my eBIAB rig. I would highly recommend this mill to anyone from novice to expert.
