Remember your parents scaring you with "Be careful of firecrackers, they can explode in your hand!"  Well let us warn you right now... our new, juicy M-80 IPA is going to explode in your mouth. It's going to be crazy. Flavors going everywhere. Maybe your parents would tell you to use caution and not to make this beer. But your grown up now, making adult decisions (most of the time), and we think you've earned the right to buy a beer kit with a fuse and a lighter. With a slight smile and a wink of the eye, we say "go ahead... have some fun".

Let us tell you about the inner workings of this bomb. Sure it has big IPA malt, but you want to know about the hops. It starts with an unreasonable amount of Simcoe, Columbus, and Centennial hops. By themselves these are all explosive hops, but together they combine to bring true, huge IPA hop flavor.  Because of the similarity of hops, one MoreBeer! staffer dubbed it a mini "Pliny The Elder... but with orange". High praise indeed.

Did you just say Orange? Well done sir, good paying attention. What really sets this IPA apart from the masses is that the recipe calls for you to cut up and add three fresh oranges into the fermenter. Crazy? We thought so. But that is what we love about our Signature Series of Beer Kits, a selection of crazy, unique beers that really stand out. M-80 IPA was designed and created by your fellow homebrewer, Carlos Musquez. We do admit he went a little AWOL on this kit and into uncharted territory, but we love a rebel. Being a graphic designer he also designed the very cool matching bottle labels. Bring a labeled six pack to your next party and you might be dubbed "The Bomb".

You will need to supply the three fresh oranges... we'd ship them to you, but they would get a little squishy.

Love this beer. I’ve been insulted with folks telling me that my home brew, this brew, is as good as commercial microbrews. I let them know that this is better.

Awesome refreshing beer with a nice citrus flavor without losing the IPA hoppiness.

Orange is a nice touch
Adding fresh orange is sweet- make sure to use a good one!
Some friends rate this as #1of my brews, but a little too tart for me...but still a good beer ??

Favorite Kit!!!
I got my first M-80 kit because it was on sale, but since them I have very purposely intended to make it my "house" IPA!!!
Brewed extract kit exactly per instructions, sanitizing orange cubes in vodka, and it is an incredible beer loved by all who have tasted it.

Great Value
This has become a go-to everytime I order. I've brewed it at least 12 times. It's great if you follow directions, or you can save some of the hops (and $) for other batches if you wish. However, the OG tends to be a bit higher with the extract version than the all-grain version of the same kit. Either way, its way cheaper for the kit than the ingredients separated!

Great Citrus Brew
I was also concerned about the lack of clarity of the instructions about the orange addition. As another reviewer has mentioned zest is peel. I didn?t want to get too spun up over the deal, and almost didn?t add orange at all. However I came up with a compromise that worked well for me. After three days of fermentation I washed and peeled four Halo Mandarins. I didn?t worry about contamination; I wore disposable nitrate gloves, I put my trust in Mother Nature. I broke the Halos down into natural sections, and then placed them into disposable muslin grain / hop bag. Then I squeezed the bags into the top small hole of my Speidels allowing the juice to run into the fermenter. I then steeped the bag until it sunk into the wort. I then dry hopped with seven days left of fermentation. The beer came out excellent, with an ABV of 7.7%. I always taste the beer left in the hydrometer and man this is going to be something special. As a matter of fact, I even rinsed the fruit bag and munched a few of the Mandarin slices afterwards__ they were pretty tasty too, with a nice kick.

This is a Must Brew!
This is a great brew. The oranges provide a nice balance to the hops, making this a very smooth 'light hoppy' IPA. Following the recipe, you will NOT get an overly hopped brew (that might be more satisfying to some hop-heads), but an easy drinking ale. I've brewed this 3 times now, and plan to brew more.

Deal of the Century
Taking the price out of the equation and only speaking about flavor ... This is a magnificent IPA. It's no hop bomb, but it has enough bitterness to let you know you are drinking an IPA. The citrus adds a seriously fantastic profile to the beer that I've never had before. I followed the instructions and bought 3 valencia oranges. I zested the rinds and cut all of the fruit off of the rinds and diced the fruit into small pieces. I dropped the diced fruit and zest into some Starsan for 60 seconds and then dropped it all into the fermenter a week after the yeast had been pitched.

Adding the price to the equation, this kit seriously can't be beat. $30 + yeast for a 5 gallon brew of this quality is nuts. I plan on brewing this one at least one or two times a year.

Great Citrus IPA!
This beer packs a great punch and the value is second to none. I was not afraid to add the oranges after reading all of the comments from other fellow brewers. Since we were not in full orange season in November with the availability of Valencia oranges, I used 3 medium sized Navel oranges with 1 zest of an orange soaked in Star-San for 1 minute. I tried my first beer after 2 weeks of fermenting in the bottles and it was a silky smooth with a refreshing citrus finish that was very enjoyable. I recommend chilling the beer in the freezer for 15 minutes to get a creamy silk finish rather than a refrigerated beer. Definitely going to brew this again and substitute the orange for grapefruit.
