Can I use this to passivate stainless?
Diane Baas on Aug 31, 2020
BEST ANSWER: No. Passivation can be achieved by using citric, nitric, or phosphoric acids in high concentrations. We typically recommend a small dab of pure Starsan acid sanitizer as most brewers have it on hand. If you want something less expensive, citric acid mixed with an equal weight of distilled or deionized water should do the trick.
I’m assuming the lactic acid is food grade and can be used pre or post fermentation, correct?
Chris Erdos on Sep 12, 2023
BEST ANSWER: Heck yes
Can I use this product (lactic acid) to lower down the pH of my wine?
Valentin on Jun 25, 2023
BEST ANSWER: Of course, pre-fermentation

Lacks proper potency
Used this product, took 12 ml to lower 16 gallons to 5ph. Then added grains and had to add 18ml more to get between 5 and 6. Pretty sure this is not 88% as all the calculators say it should have been way too much and if anything it was a bit too little but I didnt want to take a risk by dumping in more. Final beer was a good beer, but the PH was too high -_- Got it to limit ferulic acid, and it helped but lacked the proper potency.

Response from MoreFlavor
Thank you for your review. It is possible that your water has a high mineral content which has more buffering power than you had accounted for in your calculations. It is important to understand your starting water chemistry as well as that of the mix of grains you are adding. Unfortunately there is no magic number of ml/L that will work for everyone. The best way to know will be to do trials with the water and acid before your brew day so you can know what change to expect per ml.

Cheers!

For acidifying sparge water
I use this to acidify my alkaline (native) sparge water and avoid tannin extraction during sparge.

I use this to drop the pH of the mash. I've also used this to sour a Gose, and it worked really well.
