Description

Want an easy-to-use, stainless vessel that ferments and carbonates? This 29L/7.6 Gallon keg has been modified to allow you to do both! The top is fitted with a large 4 inch tri-clamp lid with two ball lock posts and a pressure relief valve. You can use this vessel to ferment, carbonate, serve, or push the beer through a filter. The posts are recessed which allows you to stack these kegs up to 4 high. A 4" T.C. end cap with pre drilled hole is also available (H691), which can be paired with a #3 stopper and airlock.

Also consider the Kegmenter Hop Bong Pressure Pack which allows for oxygen-free dry hopping and also features ball lock posts for Gas & Liquid.

Depending on how long it will take to consume the finished beer, we recommend using two kegmenters, one for fermentation and one for carbonating and serving. After fermentation, there will be a large trub cake at the bottom of the vessel. Leaving finished beer on the trub for too long (2-3 weeks) may eventually lead to off-flavors. Check out our ball lock jumper line (KEG575) to easily transfer from one kegmenter to the other. Also consider our beer filter kit (FIL40), which will allow you to filter the beer during transfer.

Features:

  • Rated up to 2.5 BAR (36 psi)
  • 4" T.C. lid with ball lock posts
  • Floating dip tube
  • Stainless steel 1.8 mm thick

Use:

  • As a stainless steel fermenter that is easy to clean
  • Great choice for 5 gallon fermentations
  • Easy to pressurize the kegmenter after fermentation to push through a filter and into another keg
  • Fermenting under pressure, allowing CO2 to exit via the relief valve, reduces esters and fusel alcohol production allowing you to ferment at warmer temperatures
  • Distillation - with the addition of a T.C. reducer and condenser (H701 / DS120 / DS130)
  • As a cellar keg for topping up barrels

Warning: Always depressurize keg before removing lid.

Does not include spunding valve shown in example photo. Please see FIL42A.

What would be the best way to add a thermowell to this?
Seth C on Nov 30, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I was wondering the same thing, my guess is that the easiest way is to use the alternative end-cap H691 and use a bung with a hole drilled for a thermowell. It would be nice if they offered a regular end-cap with a thermowell already welded; I tend not to trust FV surface temperature measurements and prefer in-wort reading as well.
What are the dimensions with/without disconnects?
Matthew R on Nov 25, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Hi Matthew - Our database shows dimensions as - H15.75, W15.75, L16.5 the disconnects add approximately 3/4".
Is this a full-height (skinny) 1/4 keg or the full-diameter (stubby) "pony keg"?
Kendall on Nov 21, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Hello Curtis - Our database shows this with a diameter of 15.75.
Could most people reach their arm into the 4" port to clean the inside walls?

Is there anything special you have to do to clean the keg before the first use?
T Alex Glaser on Jul 3, 2020
BEST ANSWER: I have 8 of these now. I start by flushing 160F PBW through. On ALL of them. For the first time I get what looks like oil settle on top of the fill. I run the mix for a minute or 2 until no more oil forms on top. I dump the hot cleaner and flush with a light citric acid solution to neutralize. Then I follow with a 160F 10% citric acid mix to passivate for 10-15 min. Dump w/o rinse and allow to air dry fully. Just before use I soak in starsan while brewing, and dump just before pitching.
Just ordered and received this - doesn't come with a gasket for the lid. Is this correct? I would think a gasket would be required.
PAUL L S on Feb 14, 2020
BEST ANSWER: There should be a gasket. It is black rubber with some ribs that fit into the grooves on the mating flanges.
Is this really 34lbs? That seems very heavy for a keg. I'm hoping to travel internationally with it, but that would be difficult.
Keir P on May 15, 2022
BEST ANSWER: I never bothered to weigh mine when empty, but when I Googled 'what does a pony keg weigh empty' I got 25 lbs, which is also heavy for any kind of travel. That is, of course, unless you learn to stand on top of it when it's on its side and walk backwards like a lumberjack, then it would be a mode of transport by itself. Cheers!
Do the lid have a hang tab for dry hop tubes?
Thomas P on Nov 21, 2020
BEST ANSWER: They do not have a tab on the bottom of the 4" lid.
I am having trouble getting the 4" tri-clamp to fully seal under pressure. It slowly leaks and I have cranked it down tight and used keglube. Any thoughts on getting to seal tightly?
Michael F on Jan 5, 2021
BEST ANSWER: You might have a bad clamp. I have two of the kegmenters and one of the clamp will seal either, while the other doesn't work on either. I called MoreBeer and they sent me a replacement clamp that worked. With a good clamp it shouldn't be very hard to make the air tight seal.
can the floating dip tube be easily replaced with a solid one? say one from a corny keg, cut to length?
Clint R on Mar 21, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Hi Clint - Yup, that should be relatively simple as long as the replacement dip tube is cut to length and is compatible with ball lock posts.
What's the height of this?

This is a great fermenter. If you want to make hoppy beer and do an oxygen free transfer you can't beat this fermenter. It's the perfect size to do a 5 gallon batch. Easy to clean. I don't use the floating dip tube. I replaced that with a solid tube.

It doesn’t leak and easy to clean
I bought this fermentation keg so I can start fermenting under pressure and so far the Keg does what it’s meant to do I thought I had a leak but it turned out to be the spunding valve not the keg, I will soon buy another one since I do 10 gallon batches.

Lid problems.
It’s stainless and cleans easily. Would give it another star but my lid leaks even using keg lube, also the check valve seems to release on its own.

A good value but welds not as sanitary as other kegs I own.
Seems like a great value for the price as finding these on secondary markets (10 gallon corneys I mean) is not easy.
Subtracting a star for how many welds inside that seem not to be as high quality as other kegs I own.
Also subtracting a star for the float ball appears to be connected to the dip tube with a silver solder connection. Not a sanitary weld. I'm a little disappointed there.
But again overall it's a good value if you can live with those challenges.
