Description

This magnetic drive pump is a perfect pump for your brew system. Use it to move hot wort in an all-grain system and also to transfer wort from boil kettle to fermenter. The housing of the unit is made from tough, food grade food-grade heat-resistant SPS. The magnetic drive allows you to slow down the flow without damaging the pump. This pump is not self priming so do not run the pump dry. The pump head can be rotated in 60-degree increments, allowing for 6 different pump head orientations. Optional stainless steel pump head upgrades available—standard stainless center inlet head or stainless inline tri-clamp head.

The MKII is also available with the inline stainless steel tri-clamp head already included, see here.

Can this pump be lubricated? Mine is seized and only barely turns by hand.
Chris Stackhouse on Oct 21, 2020
BEST ANSWER: Any pump can be lubricated but it needs to be disassembled to find the problem. Sounds like a bearing problem but I am not sure how you know it is seized since you did not indicate how much has been disassembled. Is the motor not turning or is it simply a bad magnetic impeller with the tips broken off so there is very low flow.
My pump does not pump at all, vertically or horizontally and only makes a minor humming noise. Is there someway to trouble shoot. Also should this pump be able to pump vertically 5 - 6 feet?
Jonathan Engman on Oct 14, 2020
BEST ANSWER: It will comfortably pump a few feet horizontal and vertical. Did you prime it first? Just elevate the input side - at least temporarily - to get it primed and then you should be fine - the object is to have some liquid in the pump so there's no air lock.
Is this powerful enough to whirlpool 5-6 gallons?
Chris Germain on Jun 8, 2018
BEST ANSWER: How vigorous do you want the whirlpool? It is not a vortex but it works. I use it for 15 gallons. Wish it was stronger but it works
Here is what I want to do, ideas?
Submerge an immersion chiller coil into a cooler of ice water.
Outlet on BK, goes to this pump, then to chiller, then back to BK to create whirlpool.
Is this pump strong enough?
If so, it would both chill and whirlpool with one pump and line!
Steve P on Apr 28, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Hi Steve, that pump should do just fine in that situation. Be sure you do a thorough cleaning and sanitizing of the inside of your immersion chiller first. Would recommend that you install high temp hoses on your chiller, most just come with standard hose since the normal use would be to run cold water through the inside.
Has this pump in 220v?
Lucas Elias Montibeller on Feb 5, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Unfortunately, we only stock the 110v version of this pump.
What is a good way to throttle this pump? Is there an inline regulator, or can it be safely run at lower voltage with something like a variac?
Christopher Newport on Jan 16, 2020
BEST ANSWER: I only run mine at standard household current. There is no in-line regulator. To control flow, I use a standard ball valve on the output port. The ball valve works reliably for flows all the way to a trickle without clogs or airlocks. Hope this helps you.
Do we know of any problems with mounting this pump vertically?
George Brooks on Jun 23, 2020
BEST ANSWER: This pump works great when mounted vertically as long as the pump head is on the top. With the head on the bottom you may run into some slight issues, but it will still work alright for the most part.
Is there an output psi rating for this pump? I am trying to determine if standard silicone tubing is sufficient at 160F or if I need to go with reinforced tubing when using this pump.
Allen Logan on Jun 8, 2022
BEST ANSWER: I have used just silicone tubing for mine with no issues. It really doesn’t create much pressure and I usually throttle the intake to get the temp drop across my chiller. I am at 200+ in and 70+ out. No problems.
Hope this helps.
How much power in Watts?
Christopher Newport on Jan 16, 2020
BEST ANSWER: The motor is rated at 25W
Does this pump require I port my kettle? Will it be too difficult to prime without the port?
Brad Stein on Jun 30, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Hello Brad - It is highly recommend to have a bulkhead with shut-off valves on your kettle any time using a pump. The dangers of manually priming and or using a pump around boiling liquids are far too great.
Can this pump be used to run a reverse osmosis system? It would have to be able to maintain 45psi?
Jeff on Dec 21, 2022
BEST ANSWER: That would be a question for your RO system manufacturer. But I f you don’t already have an RO system, I would just buy the water from your local filtered water shop.
I'd be in a pretty place if my pump gave out on a brew day. What can we predict as to the expected service life of this appliance? Has anyone experienced such a failure? Does anyone keep a spare?
George Brooks on May 29, 2021
BEST ANSWER: I've lived with the same fear ,so I purchased the SS head, later, and now have the plastic as a backup,
What is the O-Ring item number for this pump? I have this pump and used it, but it leaks between the head and body. I would assume theres supposed to be an o-ring, but I dont know.
michael laso on Feb 2, 2020
BEST ANSWER: Hi Michael, the part number for the replacement gasket is PMP500G. It's currently not listed online but we will accept orders over the phone.
Looking for female hose connectors thst screw onto this pump?
Benjamin on Nov 21, 2020
BEST ANSWER: The hose connectors that will fit on this pump head are 1/2" female threaded pieces such as our stainless H618B or the brass H422A. We also have 1/2" threaded fittings that will connect to a garden hose H502 and H505; these only come in brass.
Do you sell barbed connectors for thus motor?
Peter Terzian on Jul 24, 2020
BEST ANSWER: The barbed connectors you are looking for are part number H618B. Cheers!
Can I use this pump with oil instead of water or beer? Thank you!
Catherine Forest-Nault on Mar 3, 2019
BEST ANSWER: I do not see why not but remember this is not a self priming pump. Also, depending on the oil they will be thicker. It’s a very beefy pump so it will push the liquids. The head is a “o” ring and the magnetic drive is powerful as far as pumps go.

MKII High Temp Magnetic Drive Pump (25 Watt)
Works like a dream. I attached mine to a board for stability when I use a ball valve so it won't tip forward. Much easier & safer to transfer hot wort. Perfect for recirculating wort when needed during the boil.

Good brew day pump
Strong pump. It’s a little noisy though. I use this pump for recirculation during the mash and at the end of the boil for the whirlpool. It’s easy to take apart and clean too.

It works. Saves a back.
The biggest personal hazard in brewing is moving large containers of liquid that weigh alot. Either heavy, glass, whatever.

I bought this one year and it's been one of the top upgrades. That - and upping the container size for fermentation to 30 gallons. But - no more lifting of 7 gallon fermonsters.. Set up with cam lock fittings and hoses.

Works great for about a year, then slows down
This (in conjunction with the stainless steel head) is a great, affordable pump for people just getting into beer circulation.

However, they only work great for about a year, then the flow rate reduces significantly. There are no clear instructions on how to rebuild/maintain the pump. I have returned one under warranty and replaced another after warranty. If MoreBeer could provide some level of instructions on repairing the pump, this would easily be a 4-5 star review.

The flow rate, when functioning properly, is more than sufficient for a 5 gallon batch size all-grain. See attached photo & video for my setup.

Excellent Little Pump
I got the pump to circulate beer line cleaner and rinse water for kegerator lines and for this it does the job well. I mounted it to a small poly cutting board and this makes it more stable. It would be nice to have a switch so you do not have to plug and unplug the cord to turn on and off the pump. I wired in my own inline switch and this is a nice addition.

As best as i can tell the threads are 1/2 BSP, which means they are British Standard Pipe and I believe these are then tapered. The Duotight connectors work well since they have a similar parallel thread and washer. They spin on and off easily and this makes for easy storage in the bucket they are used with.

You could probably take off a star for not having a switch wired in but this was bought on a Deal 5 promotion and that makes it an excellent pump for the price.

The photo shows the added switch and that is a cut out nitrile finger to cover the rocker switch to make it somewhat waterproof. Keep in mind that this modification will surely void any warranty.

This is a quiet and capable pump that is easy on the budget.
My efficiencies went up when I started recirculating wort during the mash. I do BIAB and I love this little pump - I use it during mashing (mostly to stop hot spots) and to chill and transfer at the end of the brewday. One note - I got my pump when there was a sale and it included the stainless head - I cannot say how well it works with the standard plastic pump head - so your experience may be different without the SS head. This pump is half or less the cost of the more popular units - been working great for a year - no blockages or anything!

Great lil pump while not silent quieter than I had expected.
So far great pump. I had wanted to get a pump to help even out the temp variation from top to bottom in my digit boil all grain kettle. It worked as I had hoped and reduces some stirring but the grain still needs to be stirred often. Otherwise it will compact itself and not let the wort pass thru. Also helps cycle the grain hulls back into in the basket. Flow was very good, I had to keep the ball valve about 1/2 closed until it was time for the boil. ??
