Haze Craze is our take on the hazy New England IPA recipe. Also known as a North Eastern IPA, or Juicy IPA, it quickly became one of the most popular beer styles in the US. It packs all of the hop character that craft beer nerds love, and it's much softer and less bitter than classic West Coast IPAs, making it a much more approachable style for the uninitiated. The style accentuates hop character while maintaining a smooth and creamy mouthfeel. Light in color but hazy due to heavy dry hopping, yeast selection, as well as additions of oat and wheat. Low in bitterness with a huge hop character due to hop-bursting, this beer will satiate even the biggest hop head.

NEIPA has become popular nationwide thanks to breweries like Tree House Brewing, The Alchemist, Hill Farmstead and Grimm Artisanal Ales. One taste of this delicious style will make a staple in your brew schedule.

  • Makes 5 gallons

I must have screwed something up. My original gravity reading came in at 1.030!! I pitched the yeast anyway, which took off around 16 hours. It's been about three days and my brew looks like a milky mess! This is the first time this has happened. I use an online mash and sparge calculator for my water and temp levels. All my temps were good, I'm thinking maybe I used too much water? Any input is appreciated! Thanks.

Recipe says dry hop days 3-7 and 7-10.. does that mean to dry hop For from day 3 until day 7? Or dry hop for 3-7 days?
Douglas w Tripp on Jan 9, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I took it as dry hopping the first 3 oz in the primary for the last 3-7 days in primary. Then racking the beer to secondary and adding the other 3 ounces for 7 to 10 days. So when I brewed this I let the primary go for a week until fermentation was about complete, added the first dry hop for a week, racked to secondary and dry hopped at that time and let it sit for another week and a half. Turned out great. This is a good recipe!
I'm new to brewing and still learning. Is there an easy solution to increase the ABV without ruining the flavor or mouth feel?
Benjamin E D on Dec 10, 2019
BEST ANSWER: There are a couple easy ways to do it and they all come down to adding more fermentable sugars. For IPA people like to add a pound or two of corn sugar; this adds a percent of ABV without adding sweetness to your final gravity. Another option is to use a pound or two of Dried Malt Extract; this adds a percent of ABV and does add body and sweetness to your final gravity. The third great option is using Rice Extract which will add to ABV and give you a small amount of residual sweetness that helps to balance the extra ABV without adding as much body as the DME will.
What is the preferred yeast for this brew?
Bryan Ferguson on Mar 29, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I used White Labs WLP095 Burlington Ale Yeast and got great results You could substitute some of the English style ale yeasts and get similar results. You have to make a starter.
Anyone try and spike it with 1lb of corn sugar to get the ABV to around 7?
James B on Sep 12, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Hi James - We offer a MoreHaze! Double IPA kit, if you're in the need for more ABV while maintaining the mouthfeel specific to this style.

First timer here. I bought this 5 gallon recipe kit but only have a 5.5 gallon boil kettle and 3.5 gallon fermenter (both Ss Brewtech). I am doing BIAB so I am wondering if I should cut the recipe in half to brew 2.5 gallons? Any help is appreciated.
Samuel C T on Sep 3, 2020
BEST ANSWER: It's not as easy as cutting everything in half, though that gets you in the ballpark. You can use some brewing software to scale the 5 gal recipe to 2.5 gal. BeerSmith is a common one, but you can try Brewer's Friend or BrewFather. BrewFather has a good trial period that will allow scaling; I'm sure the others do to.
How do I get the egg yolk color that some people are getting? What type of yeast are you using?
JamesC814366206 on Jul 23, 2019
BEST ANSWER: I used WY1318 - Wyeast London Ale III and do not use irish moss or whirlfloc tablets, color was spot on and very hazy.
1 Ounce of whole cone only? Rest are pellets?
Adam on Apr 26, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Actually it's 2 oz of Mosaic whole cone hops added at flamout, rest are pellet hops

Cheers!

How do I get the egg drop color that some people are getting? What yeast are you using?
JamesC814366206 on Jul 23, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Water chemistry has an impact on the softness and mouth feel , I added gypsum and calcium chloride to the water and for yeast I use wy'east London ale 3 1316 cheers!
Hi, I dry hopped the 1st round on day 3 then dry hopped 2nd round on day 7. On which day should I closed transfer into keg for carbonation? I was planning on kegging on day 14 then force carbonating to serve at a party on the weekend. Is this pushing it to fast? Will fermentation be done? WIll the beer be too green still?

I have brewed this beer once before and left it in fermenter for 3 weeks before transferring to keg and carbonating for 3 days. That brew was great...before turning completely oxidized 2 weeks later and tasting HORRIBLE. I believe the culprit that time was me not cleaning and sanitizing the keg properly. Thanks for the help and feedback! Erik
erik l on Mar 3, 2020
BEST ANSWER: Erik - It is hard to believe 14 days is all that's needed, but as you noted they oxidize quickly, simply the nature of the style. I think you'll be surprised how fresh it tastes, make sure to use a healthy pitch.
What's the best fermentation temperature for it? I'll be using Wyeast London Ale III (PS I'll be using the Extract version but I can't ask questions there for some reason)
JamesC814366206 on Aug 4, 2019
BEST ANSWER: The recommended fermentation temperature for this kit is 70 degrees Fahrenheit.

Body was great! Flavor not so much
Experimenting is all about finding what works and what don't.
I loved all the malts this recipe had to offer, so I am using the base malts as the recipe for my next beer, but with a different hop schedule.

Only 3 stars still in the keg not as hoppy or not the enough flavor. Next time I will use a different yeast and maybe add more late dry hops
Good color was lacking the fruity hop flavor next time will use a different yeast.

First attempt at a hazy. It is very tasty. I have not been a big fan of the hazy beers This gave me a chance to taste the same batch over and over. I have a new appreciation for the style.

Try it!
Great, and cheap, bier. I can make it in 22 days.

Ferment first 12 days, then the two editions of dry hop are done in the last 10 days. Add flavoring to the keg at kegging for a little pizazz. (Try grapefruit or mango).

Wifey digs it, her girlfriends dig it, and neighbors come over with chilled glasses when they see my garage door opening.
