GOOD
As always a great grain I will know soon if it's right for my version of a hazelnut brown nectar which will be in a keg soon.

The jury is still out...
Im not sure yet, my recipe estimated og at 1.060 and this 20lbs mashed at 150f only yielded 1.051 og. I don't think I've ever been off by that much before...if this happens again this grain may be old or something...

Great for SMaSH
I've used this as my base malt in a single malt/single hop pale ale twice now. It does a good job of laying a foundation for the hops to shine.

Versatile and Reliable
This is a great base malt for almost any style. Its clean, neutral taste lets the flavors of your specialty malt additions shine. I've never had issues converting non-barley adjuncts when I've used California Select. Very consistent from batch to batch. It's also nice to have a locally sourced ingredient as a major component in my beers.

No frills base malt
I just switched over to using this as my standard American 2-row base malt. It is a little less bready and sweet than the other offerings, but I prefer that especially when trying to make a very simple and clean brew. It's almost somewhere in-between pilsner and some of the deeper colored 2-row malts available (in terms of flavor and color).

My Preferred Base Malt
This is my current house base malt. I find the neutral, mildly sweet flavor to be perfect for any ale style.
