Is this appropriate for making 1 gallon batches of beer? Asking because it seems to just hod a gallon without much space for foam/gas.
Jennifer Figueroa on May 1, 2020
BEST ANSWER: You are correct that there is very little headspace for krausen (foam) when doing a beer batch. As the other answer says, other fermentations don't require as much headspace as they don't foam as much. If using this for beer we would recommend a nice blow-off tube or doing a slightly smaller batch to create more headspace. Perhaps you could brew a 1.5 gallon batch into 2 fermenters and try out your recipe with 2 different yeasts.
does this have a flat bottom to use on a stir plate?
Roy Reagan on Aug 4, 2021
BEST ANSWER: The center raises from the edges. The center is flat for about 3 inch diameter. The rest has about 1/4” change from outside edge

A little on the small side.
These fermenters are nice except for one thing. They are only a gallon if filled up to the base of the cap. If you add headroom for primary fermentation action, the usable volume is more like a pint less or 7 pints (?112 oz). This is not really a big deal but I wish some of the manufacturers would be more specific. If your selling something as a fermentation vessel, it would be good to know how much usable volume for fermentation it actually possesses.

Affordable and efficient
Simple and efficient. The wide mouth makes it the perfect test batch fermenter or melomel trial fermenter.

Great Jar
I picked this up for fermenting sauerkraut and making small batches of mead and it's been great so far! Nice and sturdy, the lid is solid, and the included airlock is perfect and fits snugly.

You get what you pay for
I bought 3 of these to be able to break out experimental brews at secondary.
They are inexpensive for a reason.
The lids don't seal very well, and the grommet is too large for the supplied air locks, so there are all kinds of leaks in and out there as well. I guess I have 3 glass storage jars now. Oh well.
