The Vermont IPA Strain
The Vermont IPA strain from Giga has a strong, growing following if you search the web.  The problem is the supply has not been able to keep up with demand. MoreBeer! worked with Giga to get all they could produce and was able to offer this product via mail order delivery (it is not yet in our retail stores).  We are excited because we know you are going to love it.  As the name suggests this yeast is perfect in IPA's where it leaves a beer with more body and a slight fruity ester. What really makes it stand out is that is known for being amazing when combined with aromatic hops.  While perfect for IPAs it is also a good choice for any high gravity beers and hoppy styles.  Broad temperature range and moderate flocculation make this yeast a versatile house strain.

More On Cell Count
200 Billion cells per pouch means that with one pounch you can attain the gold standard of pitch count. The ideal pitch rate is .75 million yeast cells for every milliter of wort  times degrees plato for nearly any beer you will make. 200 billion yeast cells is also fantastic if you are making 5 gallons of high gravity beer and don't have time to make a starter.  Saves money if you are making 10 gallons and only want to buy one yeast. Getting twice as many cells per pack versus the other brands is also a great idea for mail order shipment, which can be a little tough on liquid yeast.

* Attenuation was measured after 8 days with Ale yeast at 70˚F and Lager yeast at 50˚F.  Medium Gravity is 14˚ – 16˚Plato.  High Gravity is 23˚- 25˚Plato.

†  The working temperature range represents the range at which fermentation for a given strain produces a typical attenuation- not necessarily the ideal temperature for your particular beer style.  As a rule of thumb, start ale yeast fermentation at 68˚ – 72˚F and then lower or raise temp as desired.  Lager Yeast are typically fermented at 45˚ – 58˚F.  If desired, Lager Yeast can be given a “hot start” at 65-68˚F and then lowered to the primary temperature after active fermentation begins (10-20hrs).

it is dry or liquid yeast ?
Not getting any activity, used my normal starter...been 2 days, going to pitch something else to save it, or should I give it another day?

BEST ANSWER: I haven’t had this problem but I have read about those who have and the consensus seems to be to wait it out, it’ll work. FWIW, I always do a starter with it and pitch just after high krausen plus subsequent generations take off much faster and are way more vigorous than the first. Give it at least one more day.
Been in the process of fermentation for a littler over 48 hours and it has not started. What do I do now ?

BEST ANSWER: I had the same experience with this yeast. If I remember correctly it took about 72 hours to get going. If this was shipped this summer it may have gotten overheated and lost some yeast cells. Eventually it will take off just have patience.

Make Sure It's FRESH as possible!!!
First I should start by saying…Morebeer rocks & has always had the best/freshest supplies for me! Also, I’m not a novice brewer and have been brewing for 10yrs. This is the first time I’ve been let down. With that being said, onto my issue….

I ordered 4 packs early Feb. 2020...they sent me "Vermont Gigayeast" produced beginning December 2019. I usually prefer/use the freshest yeast possible (no more than 1-1 1/2 months old) but had no choice but to use these since it was the only yeast I ordered. The only liquid yeast that I’ve had “zero” issues with past 2-months old is “Imperial Organic”. With them you never have to worry or even make a starter.

So, I used 2 packs in 5-gallon batch to be safe because they're almost 3-months old which is borderline when using liquid yeast. Well, needless to say these were duds. I was extremely patient because I know this strain has “lag-time” 12-24hrs, but it’s been 48hrs n’ nada. I even tried raising temp to kick start it n’ nothing. 8-hour brew day and $80 in brew supplies wasted. This yeast should not be distributed past 1-month from its production. If you happen to get it older than 1-month from production…make a double-starter for 5-gallons!!!

I did not have any problems with a direct pitch. This was nearly done in 48 hours and very thorough, so be prepared for first hop if you are trying to make neipas.

Haven’t tasted the finished beer yet but I was impressed that strong fermentation began in less than 12 hours and finished out at 1.010 from 1.068 in less than 48 hours.

Worked great
Used it for a DDH NEIPA and fermented at 72-73 for one week. Definitely got those pleasant fruity esthers that complimented the El Dorado and citra used it dry hop.

I used it for an American wheat, New England Pale Ale, and I am planing to use it on a NE IPA this weekend.
The wheat beer and pale ale turned out so good, I can not wait to use it for a New England IPA.

This made some weird sulfur smells when I was making a starter with it, but the finished beer is one of the best I’ve made recently. Used it in a “juicy” pale ale and it was just that. No overly apparent yeast esters or flavors, but both malt and hop flavors both seemed accentuated more so than when I use my house yeast, WY1968. It’s actually pretty comparable to WY1968, just seems the hop “juiciness” really comes through with this yeast. Flocculates about the same, leaving a nice brite beer. Didn’t harvest from the fermenter, but I did overbuild and save some of my starter. Can’t wait to see how it evolves as I keep using it.

Quick to start
Got it on a sale. Had full Flocculation in 16 hours. Has a light floral aroma I'm the closet at the moment, but still fermenting.
