Pick up this Flow Control Ball Lock Disconnect and stop banging your head against the wall trying to balance your draft line. We're all after the same thing -- the perfect pour -- but balancing beer lines can be a daunting task. You do the research and crunch the numbers, choose the right inner diameter line, cut it to the ideal length, only to spend your evenings dialing your regulator setting back and forth like a turtle-necked safecracker. This stainless steel flow control disconnect will eliminate the guess work and fast track you to perfectly pouring beer.

Flow control faucets are a popular option but they're inherently flawed due to the point of restriction being at the very end of the beer line. The flow control apparatus inside the faucet causes turbulence, which leads to foaming and carbonation coming out of solution prematurely. Flow control disconnects on the other hand restrict the flow before the beer enters the beer line so the head pressure created by the beer line keeps the carbonation in solution.

Another advantage of FC disconnects is that you don't have to rely on a small inner diameter or long line length to apply flow resistance. In fact, even in the fully open position the disconnect will provide some inherent flow resistance, so you should use a shorter line than the 5-6 ft. length that is typically recommended. This makes the flow control disconnect ideal for dispensing beer on the go where you might have a picnic tap with a short line or a disconnect faucet adapter with no line at all!

 

Please note: make sure your keg post o-rings are in good condition before using this fitting. If they are overly worn and you are not getting a good seal, replace the post o-ring then re-attach the ball lock fitting.

Doesn't fit on any of my kegs
I bought 2 for my kegerator years ago and finally got around to needing them. I have a high carbed cider that I'm trying to compensate for but I couldn't get this to clamp onto my ball-lock out. I thought maybe I had swapped my gad and liquid posts around (wouldn't be the first time) but they were correct. Luckily I bought two so I tried the other one which wouldn't push-on either. I had 3 other kegs nearby and neither of the 2 would push on to any of those either. Save your $$$

Leaks, doesn't seal
Leaks. It won't seal against the washers. Replaced the washer and tested against multiple ball lock disconnects with no leaks. Attached this and it leaks, very slowly. Leak is about 1/2 an oz per hour as well so it's really hard to detect with just pressure and soap water. Had to wrap a paper towel around the the bottom of the post to make confirm. Sure enough, it leaks.

Not sure if im using wrong
I got this so I could serve seltzer from the same system I use for beer. Although this product does a great job at reducing the flow rate, it is still pouring straight foam just slower. Another reviewer left tips on how to solve the problem, but I am still having difficulty getting this to work properly.

Just a dribble
Unfortunately this didn’t work me. Even wide open I just get a dribble out of my tap. I tried this on my continuous seltzer set up that I run at 60 psi with 2ft of 5/16th tubing . Looks like I will need to try a flow control tap instead.

Great device
Works great. I have it hooked up to 32psi sparkling water set up. Slows it down really well.

second time's the charm
The first flow control ball lock i received was hopelessly frozen in place. I contacted MoreBeer who very quickly shipped a replacement with tracking! the new one arrived and it is smoothly adjustazble, and very well built. it let me run a very short hose from a keg to a handheld dispenser gun for my seltzer tank, and let me relax the flow so that it no longer behaves erratically.

Works Great
I plan to buy more of these. It does restrict quite a bit even at full open so expect to cut down your lines if they are already close to balanced, but this thing works better than flow control taps by a mile.

There are a few things you should do before you get this thing. It works, but there are some little things you'll need first.
When I bought this and installed it, beer was foaming right in the line. It was super frustrating because this is supposed to solve that problem, not cause it.

I collected a few tips from around the internet just in case you have the same problem. I'm getting perfect pours now.

1) You'll notice that the thread is pure metal. If you're screwing that into a metal nut to connect to your line as opposed to duotight fittings or something fancy, you'll want to add a little plastic or silicone gasket or flare fitting in there just to ease that connection. reducing turbulence is the name of the game here.

2) Shorten your beer lines. You can get away with using two foot serving lines in most cases with this thing. I've even seen people attach the faucet right to the ball lock and pour perfectly. Getting shorter serving lines sounded weird to me, but it's one of the things that worked. With longer lines you are giving the liquid even more resistance to the tap.

3) When they ship this with new ball lock post o-rings, that's not merely a suggestion. Use them. You want to have brand new post o rings in good condition. Otherwise this won't fit quite right and it will cause turbulence which will result in foamy beer.

4) Ball lock Post poppets. Make sure they are in good condition too before you put one of these on. You probably should have them in good condition anyway.

5) This is a solid metal piece that is going to need time to chill down in order to work properly. Give it a few hours or a day. Otherwise, your beer is going to warm up before it even gets to the line and its going to be foam city.

6) Adjust resistance to the pressure. This is the balancing act where you want to adjust the resistance to the amount of pressure and there's no set science to it. You just have to pour and twist until you get the right balance until it's pouring just right.

It's a brilliant little gadget and it will work to do what you need it just takes adjustment and a few little accessories before it really works.

Excellent for flow restriction
Very substantial/solid feel to the disconnect. Performs great for flow restriction.

Original intent in buying was to help with foam control on room temp (70-75F) high psi (20) dispense and deliver what I would consider a typical draft pour. In my opinion it did not provide the foam control I was hoping to achieve given the original intent. That said, it does an excellent job on reducing flow velocity.
