This hydrometer did not come with a temperature guide. I was wondering what the temperature of the liquid should be at?
Steven Grant on Mar 6, 2018
BEST ANSWER: The liquid should be at room temperature in order to get an accurate reading. Use this online tool if needed.

To be honest I'm surprised that they sell something this delicate. It's great but I am very afraid of breaking it every time I use it. Even getting it out of the plastic holder is stressful

Great at what it does.
I love simple, purpose built tools. This hydrometer says what it does and does what it says.

Get one for ancestral method
It seems to be roughly .0005 degrees off which is fine for my ancestral method sparkling wine. Certainly better than the large range hydrometer

makes FG readings so much easier
I just love this tool. No guessing which reading you are getting. Obviously it is very fragile, but it is great.

Fragile for price
Like the other reviews state this is a very fragile hydrometer. Fit into opening of my wine thief but got stuck closer to bottom due to its larger size. Broke while trying to pull it out. Dissapointingly fragile especially when this version is almost twice as expensive compared to other sites. Would like to try again but not sure if willing to due to price/fragile nature.

Great tool, but fragile.
I was always struggling to see exactly what my finished gravity was with another, less accurate hydrometer. This hydrometer makes it simple to see exactly what your reading is. After using this, I don't want to do without it.

Cons: It is very fragile. The stem is very thin. As long as you're very careful, it's fine. I dropped the first one, and I'm here to order another... Also the weighted end is larger than the other hydrometer I'm used to. It is almost too bid for my wine thief. I think it's fine, but it makes me wonder if there's enough friction to affect the reading. I haven't checked with another vessel yet to see, but I think it's fine. It could be better to use a graduated cylinder.

I read the other reviews about this hydrometer being fragile, and thought, "yeah sure, just be careful." First thing I do is break the thing taking it out of the package. Doh! But really, I was trying to be exceedingly careful. The stem is just too small and made of thinner glass than other hydrometers.
