Description

The Fermentasaurus is a unique, game changing plastic conical fermenter for homebrewing. It is the perfect choice if you want to see your fermentation, dump trub, collect yeast, and even carbonate all in one vessel without any transfers or siphons.  Made from clear PET the Fermentasauras offers the classic benefits of a conical shape without the cost of stainless. It will drastically cut down on oxidation by removing any need to rack your beer to a secondary vessel. And perhaps most amazingly it can be pressurized like a keg with the addition of the optional Fermentasaurus pressure kit

The Fermentasaurus fermenter has a large 35L (9.25 gallons) size that makes it easy to ferment 5 gallon batches. The standard lid has a built in stopper and comes with an airlock. There is a butterfly dump valve at the base of the cone with a 500 ml harvesting container. This makes it very simple to remove the yeast at the bottom of your fermenter without exposing your beer to oxygen. The handy harvesting container also allows you to store the yeast to use on your next batch! The dump valve has been designed so that no threads are immersed in liquid making it easy to clean. Other fermenters will use ball valves that are very difficult to clean without completely disassembling them.

The Fermentasaurus is produced in Australia after four years of R&D. This fermenter is the world's first conical PET fermenter that is pressurizable up to 2.4 Bar (34.8 psi) letting you go from fermenting to serving without having to transfer to another vessel. You also have the option of fermenting under pressure which reduces esters and fusel alcohols allowing you to ferment warmer than you normally would. If you do choose to transfer your beer you can do it under pressure straight into a keg or other vessel with little to no oxygen exposure.

Overall value. I'm not quite ready to splurge on a stainless unitank , yet the Fermentasaurus will allow me to pressurize my beer by force. I'm also hoping the create a carb stone attachment for this device.

Can I use PBW to clean the fermentasaurus?
Matthew on Jan 13, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Yes, I’ve been using it to clean my fermentasouraus. There is no need to let it soak over night though because you are able to fit your arm and and in to gently rub the gunk off.
hello is the fermentasaurus capable to make a 7.5 gallon batch?
GERALD VAN DE HEY on Sep 24, 2018
BEST ANSWER: The most I've done is a 6.6G (25L) batch. I usually have +1 Gal in there for primary & secondary activities like yeast harvesting & dry hopping. That leaves just enough headroom for primary fermentation. Although I've had to use a blow-off for smaller batches (let out pressure before), and also get away with mitigating need for blow-off by allowing pressure to increase to 10 psi. I don't think I can push for a 7.5G batch given how little headroom would be left. However, if you don't use the pressure ferment, and can attach a blow-off then I'd say 7.5G batch size would be about the biggest to attempt. Depends on recipe & yeast.
Can I transfer the carbonated beer to bottles instead of a keg?
robert millar on Oct 16, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Hello Robert - Yes, but after carbonation it would be best to use a counter pressure filler.

Great bang for the price
Have a batch of red ale going in it right now, only thing that o would change is the lid size to make it larger so it is easier to pour the wort into after it is cooled, plus the stand to be a little bit more steady and heavier.

Gotta hand it to those Ozzys. Ferment Lagers warm under pressure. Dry Hop, add fruit without introducing O2. Transfer to keg under CO2 pressure. Beer never contacts oxygen again til you dispense it. Best of all the price is right.

not a big enough lower orifice
This works great as a fermenter, but the orifice at the bottom isn't large enough and the angle change in the bottom stops the trub from going into the trub dump. If there was a spigot 2 inches up on the conical, one could pull the beer off into a bright tank for finishing. Also, don't try and take it apart once assembled as you will break the lower mechanisms. I have two damaged ones that need parts.

Response from MoreFlavor
Hello Byron - We have found leaving the bottom dump valve open during ferment and giving the collection vessel a gentle squeeze, will get trub flowing quite well. As for reassembling the valve mechanism, it is crucial to pay close attention to the thread pattern, and keep everything straight.

Love this Fermenter
Doing my second batch. So far, no leaks or clogs. Eliminates the need to siphon into a secondary and to clean/sanitize the additional equipment. You can see your fermentation process as it happens. Cleaning is not hard. I close off the bottom, add some Oxyclean, hot water, put the lid on, the shake/swish. My hand fits inside, so I can get a sponge in to clean down the sides. Biggest issue - Carrying it down to my basement with 5 gallons of wort, as there are no handles on it.

Fermentasaurus
I transfered my wort into the Fermentasaurus and waited a few days to open the valve to get the trub out. That was 8 days ago and I am still letting trub out not to mention beer. It is my first time with this system so I am learning.

Hi Galen - We feel your learning pains. With FE100 we have found it best to leave the valve open right from the start and throughout fermentation. Trub will settle into the collection vessel, along with yeast and many other particulates as they have higher mass. With patience you'll see the layers stratify and push good beer back into the fermenter. Every ounce counts...

I bought a 2nd as a gift
I preordered mine when they first became available. I have fermented too many times to count and always happy. Five stars of course but several times I did not tighten the tank to valve connection and had to tighten to stop drips. Not a problem, since once tight enough the leak stops. I now tighten another 1/8 turn beyond what I believe is tight and problem seems resolved.
Good size, easy to clean, pitching and removing yeast in the conical bottle make this superior to carboy bottles or buckets. A good step up for me after 30 years using carboys.

So happy with my purchase!
I got this with the pressure kit and a spunding valve, I set it around 8 PSI for all my brews. 6 brews and I haven’t had a bad batch, not having to transfer (reduced chance of bacteria and O2) and can move directly to a keg (reduced chance of bacteria and O2) the beer is sterile and never touches oxygen once I pitch the yeast.

It’s easy to clean (even after sitting for a few weeks after kegging)

My suggestion is just BUY IT!

First brew in fermentasaurus
Great conical for the price. It is nice to be able to view fermentation. Only gave 4stars because the airlock wouldn’t seal. I realized the airlock hole is used for the pressure relief valve on the pressure kit and there is not a gasket to seal it. Did a hack on the lid to add a thermowell and an elbow for a blowoff tube.

Save your money if you can- get a stainless!
I was disappointed in this. The plastic is thin- you can easily "crinkle" the plastic inwards with negative pressure. Also- if you fill it and plan on moving afterward- be very careful! It is very awkward to carry this thing with 5 gallons in it!

I would say it does MORE than the the other plastic fermentors out there (like, pressurized options the being the biggest) but after $120 for this, and $60 for the pressure, kit, you are almost halfway there to a real stainless!

I returned mine- HUGE kudos to MoreBeer's AWESOME customer service! It makes me feel confident buying knowing that these guys & gals stand behind their service and products. Added an extra star for that.
