Description
This thermometer will be a great addition to your homebrewing setup. The shorter 2.5" probe works great in a boil kettle or hot liquor tank because it’s easier to work around. Keep in mind that some brewers feel this is too short for a mash tun and prefer a longer thermometer which reaches closer to the center of the mash. (See our MT514 for the same thermometer with a 6" probe.)
 
Thermometer has an easy-to-read 3" Face, and 1/2" MPT threads on the back to connect to your kettle. The metal stem is durable and won’t break like glass can. Our reviewers agree that this is a great thermometer at a great price!

Works just like it did 10 yrs ago when I bought it
I've had this going on 10 years now. Works reliably and as intended. The materials used have not shown any sign of degradation and still work as good as it did through hundreds of brews. I use this as my after boil chill loop to make sure wort is good temp before sending it to the fermenter. - magicalpancake

I haven't brewed with it yet, just boiled 10 gallons of water to calibrate it. It was spot on! Used a burner that was too small so it took almost an hour and a half to get boiling and no condensation behind the glass on the face.

Thermometer was very useful in the cooking process. It was right on 212 degrees. I was also impressed in the fact that no water had entered thermometer when I put underwater during cooling process. Highly recommended if you are a beginner.

I thought it would of came with some type of washers, it did not. I could not get it to fit on my Ss kettle. Lesson learned, do not use inferior product on quality product to try and save some money. Now I am stuck with this item because it will cost me almost what it is worth to ship it back just to be credited.

Thank you for the review, Roger! This thermometer does not come with any washers or o-rings. If you're experiencing leaks, we always recommend using some Teflon tape around the threads to create a tighter seal.

Great thermo - this one too short for MT
These are great thermometers. Easy to adjust (but a little too easy to mess up - don't turn it by the "face" when installing). They also do not come with an allen-wrench to adjust and the one you need is very small. You should also purchase one of morebeer's spirits based thermos to use as a calibration tool for this thermo.

The only thing I'd caution about this one in particular is the probe length. It's too short for a mashtun. I was getting a lot of temperature drop over an hour because it wasn't penetrating deep enough into the mash. A 6" prob solved that and my mash temps are now solid.

Must have...
Bought this to use with the kettle in starter kit #4 as per most everyone else's reviews. Glad I did. It's the perfect size to use with the wort chiller. Numbers are easy to read, and seems to respond pretty much instantly.

Got some condensation inside right away
Right away it got a little foggy right around mashing temps, and it's been that way ever since. Otherwise pretty reliable. Just takes some effort to read it.
