Probably good for 6+lbs grain.

I bought this for extract brews that have large flavoring grain bills. Used it for the 3lbs grain in the Stratagem kit, and it worked wonderfully. Probably could fit 6 or so lbs, but no worries using less. I use the spent grain as bird feed for the quails.

Needed something for my cooler mash tun since most of the grain I buy either online or at my local homebrew store is crushed too fine, gets through my false bottom, and clogs the outlet when I start my vorlauf. Bought two and have so far used one for one batch and it did the trick - no clogging of the outlet spout. Reusable and relatively easy to clean. So far, I'm happy with it!

Very Large Bag

Based on the recommendation on batch size, I bought this bag thinking the one I had at home was too small. While the bag quality is good (not great), this bag is HUGE for the recommended 5 gal extract batch. I think the grain was only 1.5 lbs... and could've definitely used a much much smaller bag. Threw it in the washing machine (inside out, nothing else), and came out looking new.

Works great

This large fermentation bag is very handy when using a 6-7 gallon fermentation bucket (it is, in fact, oversize). I do a raspberry wine (which has small seeds) and it works great! Only complaint is that it's a bit too large for the vessel I have (but it's better than one that's too small).

Mesh blow out

This bag is decent hence the 3 star rating. For it's size it lacks a little strength. Mine blew out during the draining process, so buy a couple and allow yourself time to learn it's capabilities.

Bigger than anticipated in my 10 gallon brew kettle, I bought this to try my hand at BIAB, Huge bag, good quality, would have been better with loops to allow me to lift out of the kettle, but that's a minor issue

This about two weeks ago. I used it for the second time today - and it ripped, again. The side stitching came apart on the first bag that I bought from MoreBeer about a year ago, and the side stitching come apart, again, on the second bag that I bought two weeks ago in San Leandro. This might be a me problem, but this might also be a "side stitching" problem. Regardless, brew away, friend.

Easy clean up.

I have only used it once but made clean up much easier. Just pull the bag and dump. I am not a true boil in a bag brewer, I am using it more as a liner in the mash tun.

First batch used performed well

I just used this bag for the first time in a beer in a bag scenario in a 15 gallon kettle with a 15 inch inner diameter opening, and it performed perfectly! I do not know how long this bag will last, but if it does not perform during the next several sessions, I’ll update the review. If you are looking to do a beer in a bag, I would recommend using this one. The drawstring at the top was very convenient for tying off at the top of the kettle.

Great for 90 liter press

We make several berry wines in addition to our grape wines, and these mesh bags are a big help. We do whole berry ferments of blue/cran/black/rasprberry wines. We cut out the bottom to fit in to our 90 liter Speidel Press and these bags give us a very clean press of our newly made wines and are re-useable to some degree.

I like these bags and they do a great job containing the malts. The only issue I had was that these are pretty wide for an 8.5g kettle, which made it hard to make sure the draining wort made it into the kettle (BIAB). I ended up putting it in a bucket and batch sparging it, which worked for me.

Great. I use it instead of a false bottom.

I'm a minimalist, simple apartment brewer. There is no simpler way to separate grain from liquid than with a mesh bag. Efficiency may or may not be slightly lower than a traditional false bottom, but I use this bag in combination with a bazooka screen. My mashes have higher efficiency with a bag + bazooka screen than bazooka screen alone. Bazooka screen alone also provides a rather slow/almost stuck batch sparge while with the bag everything goes smoothly even if I mash overnight or purposely sour mash for 2-3 days. I just ordered bag number 2. The first had never failed over the course of 2 years, but I had failed to clean it properly after a brew day. It had dark mold spots on it, so I tossed it and ordered a new one. The bag will start to discolor after some time, but this is normal. I've only ran it through the washer machine once, and although still discolored, it seemed clean.

Great mesh bag for very reasonable price.

Our small winery makes several hundred gallons of berry wines, including blueberry, cranberry, blackberry and raspberry. We do whole berry ferments and all of these berries have great amounts of tiny seeds. The black and raspberries pretty much turn to mush so pressing is always a dreaded chore. Now I came across these bags, which I cut out a semi circular half moon out of the bottom. This fits nicely as a very fine liner nto our Speidel 90l press. The drawstring is a nice feature that cinches around the upper lip of the ss basket, keeping the bag from getting pulled down as we fill the press, making our lives much easier at press time. I get two or three pressing days out of each bag at a very reasonable cost.

I am on my 5th batch using this bag all grain bills from 8-15 lbs. no holes or rips solid bag for the price. Bought two more should this one go. I also use a false bottom to keep the bag and the grains from scorching.

I use these bags at the brewery for hops. They do fine for up to 2 lbs. of hops. Anymore than that can be a little sketchy. Hot wert and heavy swollen hops.

Great size but does not last

Used in a 15 gallon Megapot and fits very nicely. I like the draw strap. It started to rip and holes appeared after only 3 uses. None of those batches were particularly large (~13 lb of grains in each). Maybe it was just this specimen, but I would not trust replacing it with the same.

Used it for the first time. I was thinking of making my own until I found this one. This seems like it'll hold up pretty well. And for the price you can't beat it. On my first use I only put in 10lb.'s of grain so it wasn't that heavy. I did purchase 2 just in case. I don't see myself getting to that second one for a while.

Bad bags

I bought 2 of these bags because of the great price but found out the hard way that you get what you pay for. Both bags only lasted 2 brews each. The first one developed a hole near the bottom big enough for grain to come out. Then the next bag ripped at the seam on my second batch. So in the trash they went. I won't be buying these bags again. The first bag I had (can't remember were I got it) lasted more than 30 batches. I'll have to try to find that brand again.

Excellent for BIAB

For BIAB, bigger is always better. I've found BIAB efficiency drops dramatically if you don't have a big enough bag to allow the grain relax naturally at the bottom of the kettle. This one should be good for 15lbs of grain or more.

Was great before it failed.

I bought 2 of these, one for a gift and another for myself. Today, on my third use, the bag split at the seam. My friends has been top notch, maybe I just got a bad bag. Regardless, now I'm trying to get grain particles out of my kettle with a strainer

Tight squeeze

This is a good bag for tall/narrow kettles. It's very strongno need to worry about ripping. I bought a 15 gallon MoreBeer heavy duty kettle which is excellent but has the opposite diameter to height ratio. You have to stretch this bag to fit over the top. Bag needs to be 32" wide x 16" deep.

Great Bag

This is a heavy duty bag and large enough not to outgrow. The holes are fine and no grain got through during use. My only complaint is that its a pain to get 100% of the spent grain washed out of it but that will be common with all grain bags.
This is a good inexpensive way to get into all grain brewing. I put this in my bottling bucket (insulated in a sleeping bag) and used it as a mash tun. My efficiency came out low but I think that's just the nature of using a bag and having a coarse crush. You can offset this by using more grain or having the grain double crushed.

Cheap cost

This is a great starter bag for BIAB. I have gone through several and I think this is at least my fourth one from Morebeer. They do start deteriorating after a few batches. They are still usable but they just start breaking down from use. The biggest negative is that they aren't really designed for BIAB and the holes are too big. If you want to grind your grains finer to get better efficiency then you will need a much smaller micron size in the material.

THANK YOU MOREBEER and thanks to the reviews on homebrewtalk that lead me to this bag. I didn't want to fork out a fortune for a bag just to try out BIAB. This bag literally changed my life. First off it fits in my huge 20 gallon Challenger kettle. I believe my kettle is 21 inches in diameter and about 20 inches deep and this fit. I have now brewed several all grain BIAB batches with it. I have been homebrewing for 20 years and I will never go back to mini-mash or extract. Now I know what all the hype about all-grain is all about and I LOVE IT. I wish I would have made the change long ago.

Excellent bag, great price

I was a bit skeptical about this bag due to the price. I use it for single vessel all grain brew in a bag (BIAB).

The price is 1/4 of what I am seeing elsewhere on the net. But it is just as good or better than the $29 ($35 with shipping) one that I had custom made. This is well made. I bought two thinking I would need a backup because of the price but after 6 batches, it looks and feels as new as the day I bought it.

I double mill my grains because with the fine mesh on this bag I never get a stuck mash, but my mash efficiency has skyrocketed.

This is truly a great find.
