Description

Control your fermentation temperatures with Cool Brewing's simple, yet innovative, insulated fermentation bag. This is the 2nd generation Cool Brew bag, which has made cold fermentations even easier!  Fermenting your homebrew at the right temperature is one of the critical factors in making good beer. Let the temperature get too warm, and your beer will taste 'rough' as the soft malt and vibrant hop flavors dissapear!  Typically an advanced homebrewer would want to get a spare refrigerator or even a MoreBeer! Cooled Conical to control fermentation temperatures, both those options either take up a lot of space or can cost a fair amount of money.  The Cool Brewing Bag allows the apartment brewer, those who have space constraints, or the brewer on a budget a great option to control fermentation temperature and make great beer.

Cool Brewing's Fermentation Cooler is designed specifically to accommodate standard 6.5, 6 or 5 gallon fermenter. You freeze a 2 liter soda bottle with water, or similar, and place in the fermentation bag with your fermenting carboy.  Also works great with the Ss BrewTech Brew Buckets!

The typical desired ale fermentation range is on average around 62-72° F.  For a typical 5 gallon batch (1) frozen 2-liter bottle should lower wort temperature around 5 degrees, while using (2) 2-liter bottles will lower wort temperature around 11 degrees for 24-36 hours. Of course your exact results might vary but you can adjust the amount of ice you use as you go. The manufacturer has found they can cool the wort temperature up to around a 30-35° drop from ambient room temperature.  On the flipside, add a Fermwrap and temperature controller to the setup, and you've got a heated fermentation temperature accurate to within 1° F!

The Cool Brewing Fermentation Cooler is sealed, insulated and 100% waterproof so it will efficiently and neatly keep your temperatures in check.  When you’re done, the Cool Brewing Fermentation Cooler easily folds up for storage until the next brew day!

 Cool Brew Features:

  • Up to twice as efficient and cleaner then homemade swamp coolers
  • Much less expensive than custom kegorator or keezer set up's that cost $100's of dollars.
  • Cool Brewing Cooler will work with multiple sized fermenters.
  • 100% waterproof so will not leave condensation.
  • It folds up for easy storage when not in use or travel.
  • Will work great in condos and warm climates where you need a swamp cooler even for Ale’s!
  • Contains the mess of any fermentation blowouts
  • Inner dimensions: 20.5"D x 25.5"H

Fairly new to home brewing and did not want to invest too deep yet, but keeping fermentation temps under control is way too important to skimp on. This had really good reviews and I'm tired of swamp coolers

How easy is it to access the fermenter tap using the cool brewing fermentation cooling bag?
Francis H on Aug 20, 2021
BEST ANSWER: Are you referring to fermenters with a spigot? I think you would need to take the fermenter out to do that. The "lid" of the cool brewing bag does have a 5-6 inch slit with a zipper closure. I have 2 and 3 gallon fermenters with spigots and I take them out to do gravity samples or taste. Otherwise this bag does a great job of keeping fermentation temp under control and is very easy to use. Hope this helps.
Does the cool brewing fermentation cooling bag have an opening at the front to access a fermenter tap?
Francis H on Aug 20, 2021
BEST ANSWER: No it doesn't have an opening for a tap but it works great for helping to cool Glass and PET carboys of 5-6.5 gallons. When used with a iced water bottles, a coolstix and an INK Bird temp controller- it does a great job in keeping lagers cool during fermentation.

Keeps your fermentation cool as advertised but interior not too robust
I am very pleased with how the Cool Brew kept my primary fermentation at a cool 58 F with only the minimal task of changing 2, 2 liter bottle ice bombs every 24 hours. What I'm not so pleased about is that a very small slice/tear has shown up on the bottom of the interior case. I'm not sure if it was there when I started, but the case only had a Speidel 30L plastic fermentation barrel holding about 6 gallons of Sauvignon Blanc juice. It was not moved when changing ice bombs. Now I'm wondering how I should repair this little slice.

Great cooler bag!
Nice alternative for those like me who don’t have the space or funds to immediately jump into an automatic temperature-controlled setup for lagering or lower temp fermenting. Maintains cooler temperatures with frozen half gallon and full gallon containers. This was exactly what I was needing to advance my brewing journey.

Beats a swamp cooler!
I was able to maintain 10 degrees below room temp with a few one liter ice bottles. Seems well made.

Lager fermentation Aid
Using the brew bag in conjunction with a coolstix and with an ice water reservoir allows cool fermentation to be accomplished without a fermentation chamber.

Works well
My house temperature normally holds at 76 degrees. This bag brings the temperature down to 70 degrees when I use two 1 gallon jugs of ice.

great addition
Probably could have built something comparable, but this is a great investment if you want to add a layer of temperature control that doesn't involve a refrigerator. Using recycled 32oz gator-aids as ice cubes... I use about 6-8, rotating every half day roughly to keep fermentation temps in the mid-high 60s in my basement that can reach up to 84* (dehumidifies generating heat). Folds easy, has a carry strap and there's plenty of room for my 7gal SS brewtech fermentor and blow off bucket.

This thing is great!
I’m super impressed with how well this thing kept my fermenting temperature where I wanted it with minimal fluctuation. July in the New Mexico desert can be pretty brutal and a swamp cooler can only do so much. I just made sure to check the temperature 4 to 6 times per day and added or subtracted little frozen water bottles as necessary. Taking notes (time of day, ambient temp, how many bottles added/subtracted, etc.) every time you check temp is incredibly helpful...

I was worried about this bag and how to manage large temperature changes when adding ice. I have relied on swamp coolers for years but can manage +/- 1 deg with them. This bag was a mystery until I inserted my old Johnson controller probe into a jar of water in it. It is amazing - I use small frozen water bottles. 1 every 10-12 hours and I keep */- 1 deg again in much less space, much less need of filling freezer with frozen bottles. I think with the larger bottles I’ll even be able to lager in it! But get a temp probe to take out the guesswork.
