I see a replacement 29 mm Colt Strong Capping bell listed for sale: can I get the 26 mm that came with it? The rubber gasket has worn away and it's not seating like it did. Thanks
DON BIERMAN on Nov 15, 2021
will it work with 29mm caps?
Francisco Santana on Jan 6, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Buy the optional 29mm bell as this one is standard 26mm.
Should I be pulling down with enough force that it fully depresses and makes a load sound? I feel like it is going to break the bottles, but it seems like less force isn't going to get a good seal.
Nathan Lazur on Nov 30, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Hi Nathan - Yes, you want to pull down with enough force so that it fully depresses and crimps the cap evenly around the bottle opening but enough force to leave an indent on the very top of the cap is a sign of too much pressure. It may feel as though that the bottle will break but standard bottles should withstand upwards of 200-300 PSI.
I've capped two batches with this and broken bottles in each batch. Sometimes have to bounce on the capper to get a complete seal, which probably contributes to the issue. Any tips?
Matthew Brazell on Jan 18, 2021
BEST ANSWER: Hey, I have been using this capper for over a year, I love it and have not had the problem that you have had. There are different reasons why you may be having your problem. One is that your bottles and bottle caps may be different sizes. Not likely, but there are size differences, depending on the country. Possible Reason 2: perhaps your unit is somehow defective -- not likely, but possible. PR-3: You also may have bad quality bottle caps, would be good to try with several different types, if you haven't already. PR-4: I think the most likely reason is that you haven't been able to develop a good feel for how to use the device. It's not obvious, but once you get it, you will realize how it has to feel when the bottle cap is seated and sealed properly. Perhaps you are setting the "pressure power arm" (that you push down on) too high? Get it as close to the bottle rim as you can without actually touching it. You will apply force to seal the cap and then it "gives" as it seals and you know that's the feeling you want. Perhaps the most similar feeling to it is when you slip your LoveStick into his waiting Warm-n-LovingCupcake -- as you push and then it gives and you have achieved the goal. That is what capping is all about.
No matter what I try, never get a clicking sound. And bottle is stuck in capper .Have to pry it free. Using standard American bottles. ???
Chet Stockton on Dec 11, 2019
BEST ANSWER: I experienced similar behavior 1st time use. But next time, I carefully adjusted the height to insure that downward pressure on the lever actually completes the cap seal. It will resist, then release when crimping the cap. Cheers.
Will this work with 12oz "stubby" twist-off bottles?
BEST ANSWER: This product will not work with twist off bottles.
Will this work for Twist off bottles?
Adrian on Aug 19, 2022
BEST ANSWER: Sorry, but I don't know. I've only used it on pry-off bottles. It took a little fiddling, and I wound up removing a very stiff spring inside the head, but once I did that it has worked admirably. I think it is generally not recommended to try to cap twist-off bottles, so I have my doubts whether it would work. Generally, this capper seems to be sturdy, well-made and likely to be durable.
What material is the bell made from? Is it stainless steel?
Lawrence Muijlwijk on Apr 15, 2020
BEST ANSWER: It looks to be stainless.
I have bottled @ 700 bottles of beer and it is very sturdy and works great.
i'm thinking of buying another one while they still have them.
i Love this capper.
I cap 40 bottles that have the swing cap and use the swing cap for sealing the beer if i want to finish it the next day.
i also do various beer bottles that use caps.
this is not just a good capper for the money, I think it is a really high quality capper that you would pay 3 to 4 times as much to get the same quality.
I shopped really hard to find this capper and hoped for the best and i have to say i was not disappointed.
best of luck

Will it work with Stella Artois bottles and other bottles with a thicker neck?
Daniela Nettles on Jan 10, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Daniela, unlike a hand capper this product does not grab the neck of the bottle. the crimping takes place solely on the lip area, which is an bottling industry standard. please note that it is a good idea to fasten the capper to a solid, stable surface.

Works great!
Easy to use, probably best if it could be clamped down, however that was definitely not necessary!

Needed a minor design change, but now works well.
As it arrived, it was impossible to press the lever down far enough to crimp the bottle caps. I removed a very stiff spring from between the lever and the mandrel (not sure if this is the right term), and now it works fine. I've used it for about 2 years, about 20 5-gallon batches, and it continues to do the job well.

Nice capper for the price.
Nice capper for the price. Had to practice on a few empty bottles to get the height right and get a feeling of how much pressure to apply. Also attached the base to a 2" x 12" of scrap lumber I had laying around to stabilize it. After that capping went very smoothly. I do not have enough bottles capped to know the longevity of the capper. Been using the 2 handed capper before and upgraded to this. Overall happy with it and would recommend.

Great capper and I highly recommend it.
I had to bottle some stuff for a friend with different sized bottles and it was a breeze. I wish I purchased it sooner. One less problem on bottling day.

Mostly plastic. Superr light and unstable; plan on using it two-handed (might as well use a butterfly) or drilling into your bench to use the mounting holes in the base.

Work great, tight seal and fit, First time user
This is my first foray into bottle capping and was looking for a good combo of cost and quality, and this is it. I saw some reviewers being skeptical of the plastic parts, but this thing was well designed and engineered.
