Brought to us by Nate Smith, this IPA truly is a hop bomb! With almost 10oz. of hops in a 5 gallon batch, this is one that hop-heads definitely need to try. Falconer's Flight, Citra®, Magnum, Columbus and Centennial all play a role in the clean bitterness and amazing hop aroma and flavor that you get out of this IPA. Nate is a participant in the Brewing Network's Sunday Session podcast, an active member of D.O.Z.E. (Diablo Order of Zymiracle Enthusiasts) Homebrew Club, and has been homebrewing for over 14 years. Needless to say, Nate's familiar with the scene!

Nate's Recommendations on the Citrus Bomb IPA:

Use WLP001 (with a starter) or WY1056 yeast. Plan on an 18-20 day fermentation: 10 Days at 65F, then raise to 68F on the 10th.  Add your dry hops 5 days later, and rack 3-5 days after that.  *NOTE* Fining with biofine is recommended!

  • Makes 5 gallons
  • Estimated Original Gravity: 1.066-71
  • SRM (Color Range): 7
  • IBUs: 55-60

Putting this recipe into Brewfather shows almost 96 IBUs after the 60 min Magnum (12.3 AA) and 30 min Columbus (16.7 AA). While the recipe page says this beer should have 50-60 IBUs. Am I missing something here?

This is a very good IPA with plenty of citrusy hop flavor and aroma. It is my first homebrew IPA so cannot compare it with other recipes. My O.G. was a bit lower than target so thinking it might be even a bit better with better efficiency. I definitely recommend and will definitely brew this again!

Winner!
Great IPA will be brewing this one again. Citrus hops in your face with a moderate bitterness that fades nicely. This is how I like my IPA. Did this as a BIAB with S-05. Will order again.

candied orange goodness
If you like your ipa's moderately bitter with loads of candy citrus in the aroma, this is the beer for you. Pitch plenty of yeast to insure complete attenuation. Mine started at 1061, finished at 1010. This is one quaffable IPA.

Truely Amazing IPA!!!
I took Nelsons advice (First Post) and used the Brett Trois wlp644 with a large 1000ml starter.. People who hate IPA/APA's loved this beer because of the citrus, mango, and pineapple flavors brought out by the Brett. It was so good my rubix cube fell off my desk and completed itself, neighbors called the police and they got arrested, my windows broke and had to buy a Mac, my water turned into wine, and I had to order more.. Seriously though, this is a really amazing beer kit and I would recommend it to any brewer looking to brew a killer IPA.

Great citrus IPA
Solid recipe! Try it with a large (i mean LARGE) starter of Brett Trois. It was fermented at 68 for 4 weeks and turned out great. Super fruity, tasted like a bag of tropical Skittles.
