Description

A .5 micron pad used for final filtration. When using the Buon Vino Super Jet Filter with sterile pads a homewinemaker will want to "pre-filter" the wine with polish pads (FIL16) otherwise you will certainly have early clogging issues. . The sterile filters clog too fast when there is any sediment present.

How many filters are required to filter 5 gallons of wine (3 Filters per pack)?

BEST ANSWER: Assuming this is for white wine. The filter is designed to be used with all four plates and three filter pads, so if you're thinking of pulling the two middle plates and only using the outer plates and one filter pad, you will have effectively reduced the volume-to-filter area by 67%. Will it work? It all depends on the starting clarity of your wine. Are you also skipping the coarse filtration? While you really don't run the risk of clogging with one filter pad any more than you do with three (all the wine has to go through each pad in series, regardless), you do run the risk of not having achieved the final clarity that you would like. Lastly, I'm not sure the screw press bolt is long enough to compress just two plates/one pad... you'll need to check that out.

The Buon Vino Super Jet requires the 3 filters that come in the package. I normally use the #2 filters for red wine that I’ve racked at least 3-4 times and aged in carboys before filtering. Sometimes if the wine has cleared nicely due to racking I can filter and bottle 10 gallons. I’ve notice that doing this helps the wine stay clear longer and with a good cork I can age some 3 yrs.

The answer to your question depends on how clean your wine is when you start. One pack of 3 filters should handle 5 gallons as long as you filter with a course and a fine filter first. Going straight to a sterile filter on the first pass will not work. You will clog and go over pressure almost immediately. Hope that helps.

3 pads should be plenty to filter 5 gallons, but make sure your wine is already very clear before going to these sterile pads or filter through coarse and fine pads before moving on the sterile ones otherwise you will plug these pads almost instantly.

With the super jet you have to use 3 filters at once.
That’s the way the machine works.
