Liquid Malt Extract (LME) vs. Dried Malt Extract (DME)
MoreBeer! recipe kits are offered in both Liquid Malt Extract and Dry Malt Extract so that our customers can choose the format that best suits their needs and brewing style. LME is a viscous liquid, similar in consistency to maple syrup. In addition to being the more affordable option, many brewers find LME easier to handle than dry extract. DME is more condensed and comes in a powder format that is similar to baking flour. Although it’s a little more costly, DME is naturally lighter in color and stays fresher for longer. We highly recommend DME when brewing light colored beers.

My wife loves the porter beers. She loves them over vanilla ice cream. Plus We like to have a party at Halloween with several types of beers. I give the guests two marbles to vote between the three beers I brew up.

Is this light brown or dark brown in color?
AJ T on Feb 25, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Not sure what your definition of 'light' and 'dark' are but it's a dark brown color in the glass. If you hold it up to a light you can just see some come through so it's not a 'stout' level darkness.

This is a good recipe - and it takes on flavoring well because it's not overly hopped.
This is a good recipe - and it takes on flavoring well because it's not overly hopped. Try some hazelnut or even maple flavoring.

The malt is balanced and the abv is reasonable - a tick above a session beer at 5+%.

Great go-to porter
This beer is easy to brew and has always produced a solid drinkable pint. I'm not the greatest brewer by a long stretch. I like to brew every once in a while and this beer always brings complements when I show up with it. My last batch was my first kegged beer and it was great to the last pour.

Easy and tasty
This is an easy first brew for beginners that produces a good-tasting and drinkable porter. Not too heavy, but flavorful.

Awesome Beer
This was a great beer that i brewed. It had a nice roasty flavor with a hint of caramel. This was actually a crowd pleaser from my friends. Only thing i would change is adding a little less priming sugar during bottling, as it was a little too carbonated for my tastes, but overall Amazing Beer!!

Great First Brew
This was pretty basic to brew so it is easy for first-timers. I haven't brewed in a long time so I just went by the book and had no problems.

The taste has been everything we were hoping for. Low on hops with complex malty flavor. Our friends really like it too.

Perfect for winter but I'd drink it all year round.

Turned this kit into an awesome barleywine
I left out the chocolate malt, added a half pound of molasses and brewed a half batch with this kit. Made a yeast starter with Safale US-05 and aerated well. A few weeks after bottling this is already tasting great. My wife, who is normally a wine drinker, loved it and asked me to make more. Will order two kits and make a full 5 gallon batch next time.

Good as it is,but GREAT if you...
add some pecans in the boil.

I have done this kit twice. The first time with 1/2 a pound of roasted pecan for the last 15 minutes of the boil. This had minimal effect. The next time I did a full pound for 60 minutes. WOW what a difference!

This beer lends itself to additions VERY well, and cold aging it was successful as well. It got better and better the longer it went.
