Description

407 °L - Briess Malting - Briess Midnight Wheat Malt will contribute the same color characteristics as most other Black Malts but without the bitter, astringent, dry flavors or aftertaste. Starts slightly sweet, with hints of roasted flavor while finishing out exceptionally clean. Excellent in Black IPAs, Schwarzbiers, other dark ales and lagers.

This is a great malt to add all of the flavors of dark roasted malts without the acrid or ash flavors.

Color Me Convinced
This nicely roasted/toasted/baked, whatever grain is just the ticket for adding rich color and a bit or warmer flavor to ales. 4-6 ounces is usually enough to make an impact. Loverly stuff.

Great Product for adding color without bitterness!
This is amazing, If you are looking color your beer and give it some good roasty flavor without the bitter astringency.

Color with low/no roast sharpness
Always wanted to try this for a dark beer. Used this for a Russian Imperial Stout (RIS) that leaned heavy chocolate, and really low on the roasted barley sharpness (some refer to this as astringency, but I think that's not quote the right word). Works as advertised - mostly color contribution, with some light roasty flavors (I brewed a tea first to be sure) but not sharp or harsh at all.

Love it
I’ve only used this for Black IPA’s so far but it’s been fantastic in that application. Very light roast flavors at 5% and jet black. I plan on using more of this or any time I’m looking for more color with less roast.

Love it!
I made a black IPA with 5% midnight wheat and it took silver in my local homebrew competition. It adds a lot of color and very little roasted flavors. Those flavors are just barely present. Subtle and not overpowering. I just steeped it for 30 minutes.
