I have a 20 gallon SS BrewTech Brewing Kettle. It is great for batches 8 gallons and up. I am buying this to brew smaller batches.

Its a fantastic kettle. But is there some trick to installing the rotatable racking arm without pinching the o-rings? I can't seem to get it install smoothly without damaging the o-ring.
Richard Schramm on May 11, 2020
BEST ANSWER: When using any o-rings and rotating fittings it is always best to use an appropriate lubricant to make sure the gasket doesn't pinch and that it will rotate freely. The silicone spray lubricant is food grade and easy one to use.
I cant seem to get the racking arm to insert into the TC fitting without damaging the o-rings (cutting, pinching or nicking a slice off). Even with pre-wetting with starsan and/or silicone lube. Anyone else? Or what is the trick?
Richard Schramm on May 7, 2020
BEST ANSWER: These things are real tough to get in properly. The best luck we've had is with a liberal amount of silicone lubricant and pushing it through with a gentle twisting motion similar to trying to thread it in. If we're still out of luck with that you can try putting the dip tube in the freezer for a while to shrink it down just a tiny bit. It doesn't work miracles, but it could help. This trick works well with 2 threaded fittings that are stuck together.

Only four stars
This is a nice kettle. I like the rounded bottom for even flame distribution. I used this kettle three times with excellent results where whirlpooling helps with moving any trub and hops particles to the center of the bottom. I have one issue with the kettle and that is it has a rough, unfinished internal stainless surface, not polished like the Infusion Mash Tun or Chronicle Fermenters from SsBrewTech. The kettle retains a rough surface making cleaning a little more work. Otherwise I would have given five stars. Would I recommend? Yes!

Uninpressive
Just not anywhere near the quality I’d expect from ss brewtech. It look almost used when I took it out of the box and I should have just quit there and returned it.

Good First Brew Day
In a major upgrade to the brewery, I sold my old brew kettle and bought the BME kettle. First brew experience (an IPA; Brew in a Bag) was over the weekend and I am happy with how things went, for the most part.

1. I like the triclamp fittings: they are easier to fit up and take apart for cleaning.
2. The dished bottom is a great feature as it collects the trub in a smaller area, making it easier to draw off the wort following the boil. The trub dam in my old kettle was useless and I prefer being able to rotate the pickup tube with the triclamp fitting.
3. The larger volume is great! BIAB involves 8.5 gallons of strike water, to which one adds 12 or 13 pounds of grains, which pushed my old kettle to the rim. This kettle has 2 gallons more capacity, which means that the mash doesn't involve over-topping the kettle rim. Also, boil-overs are much less of a risk.
4. It's hard to quantify the value of the fire box but it seems to me that maintaining a full boil doesn't require as high a flame from my burner.

A few things that could be better:

1. I added the Ss Brewtech themometer, which has a pointy end in the kettle. Adding the thermometer to the center TC fitting would mean that the pointy end would protrude into my BIAB bag, which would snag the bag and possible poke through the bag - not good. So, I moved the thermometer to the whirlpool TC fitting. The thermometer tip is just past the kettle wall. I checked temperatures during the mash and boil and think it works fine that way, although I can't do the pump-driven whirlpool.
2. The racking arm runs through a sight glass, which is okay but cleaning the ball valve after the brew involves disassembling the whole thing and it's a pain to reassemble it. A TC butterfly valve would be MUCH better, in my opinion.

It's a heavy kettle with the TC fittings and fire box.

Altogether, it's a great upgrade and glad I made the change.

Excellent Product!
Not really sure what I can say here other than this is a high-quality brew kettle. Solid build, all TC fittings. Not sure if I notice a quicker boil time because the dished bottom, but I was not out to decrease boil time. Rather, I purchased this 1) to gain additional volume, 2) for the TC fittings (interchangeability between my other equipment plus easy to dismantle, clean and store), and 3) whirlpool port allows me to grow when ready to abandon the manual method.

I did purchase the TC thermometer, which alleviated the need to have some hand-held device around to constantly measure temp (it's the small things, right?).

One other really nice feature - it's actually a 12 gallon kettle. It would be pushing it to boil 10 gallons, but when I want to brew more than the standard five gallon batch, I'll have the headroom to do so. That's actually big difference compared to other "10 gallon" kettles - some of which are just slightly over 10 gallon overall capacity.

Great quality for a great price.
Nice quality stainless steal and the whirlpool functions just how I imagined it would. The tri clamps are a beautiful design and making cleaning very easy. Because it has a 12 gallon capacity I can brew 10 gallon batches with ease.

Great brew kettle
Very nice brew kettle. A little more expensive than some other kettles, but well worth the extra money. Well built and well thought out design. If your in the market for a new kettle I would highly recommend Ss Brewtech brand kettles

Go for it!
This kettle is awesome. I have used it for over 10 brews and have been very happy with it. It actually holds more than 10 gallons so there is a plenty of room to prevent any boil overs. The kettle is solid and I really like to looks of it as it ages. The tangential whirlpool port works great although you do need an attachment to m. I love the TC fittings they look cool and work well too. I didn't think that the sight glass would be useful but now that I chill in the kettle (with a plate chiller) it is nice to stop the trub escaping the kettle and landing in the fermenter.

Great kettle
Just used the kettle for the first time and I am impressed. I had ordered the 20 gallon kettle, but it was too big. I ordinarily brew 5 gallon batches and the whirlpool port in the 20 gallon version is at about the 8 gallon mark which is above most of my post boil volumes. MoreBeer was awesome and allowed me to downsize to the smaller kettle. The 10 gallon kettle is slightly larger than 10 gallons and the whirlpool port worked great. Happy with the purchase. Would definitely recommend.
