Description

Keep your fermentation temperature in check with the BrewBuilt CoolStix for Glass Carboys! Temperature control is one the most important aspects of a healthy, happy fermentation. When your fermenting beer gets too hot, the yeast will likely impart off-flavors that can easily overwhelm the taste of your finished beer. The CoolStix is a revolutionary cooling solution for carboys. It is easy to clean, easy to setup, and cools quickly and efficiently.

The BrewBuilt CoolStix uses a submersible pump to circulate cooling solution and a digital temperature controller to regulate flow. When the controller's temperature probe detects that your fermentation temp is getting too hot, it will power on the submersible pump to run ice water or glycol through the CoolStix. Once the temperature stabilizes, the controller will shut off the pump and stop circulation.

This kit includes all the necessary hardware to set up and start using the CoolStix with a smoothneck glass carboy. It features a custom designed 3-hole silicone carboy hood, specifically sized to fit the Carboy CoolStix, a thermowell, and an airlock (airlock not included)The hood is not compatible with Italian threaded neck carboys.

You will also need a cold water source to provide the cooling solution. For maintaining ale temperatures, a cooler or bucket of ice water is sufficient in most cases. For maintaining lager temperatures, we recommend the Icemaster 100 Glycol Chiller.

Can this be used with a 12 gallon minibrew conical? The stopper hole is about a #4 so the existing stoppers will not work.

BEST ANSWER: Unfortunately the hood that comes with this kit will be too small for the opening on your conical.

Great chiller with lots of leak by problems
Using this for the first time on an ESB targeting 65F for high krausen temp and 68F for D Rest. Built an ice water reservoir using a 10 Gal Home Depot water cooler cycling 3 frozen 1 gal water jugs out everyday. Has been working well and maintaining temps with some troubleshooting of where to best place the temp probe during high krausen and D Rest; I also have the Brewbuilt neoprene sleeve for.my fermenter. Haven't tested it with a lager or cold crahing but so far I think the immersion chiller works well.

What does not work well is the carboy hood. I have leaking issues around both the chiller hole and temp probe hole. I have been able to seal it up using small zip ties to tighten up around the two holes. It is very hard to position the chiller itself as the carboy and hood cannot support it upright; so not too big of a surprise. But the leaking around the temp probe to me shows it was poorly designed to be a tight, leakproof design. Luckily i can seal it up with an easy fix but there needs to be some improvement on the hood or at least some more information about the issues should be communicated.
