Better Bottle is a name known in the home beer and winemaking for their quality products.  Plastic PET carboy fermenters are much safer than glass carboys; not only because they weigh less, but they will also not explode into shrapnel if dropped!  These are made from Virgin PET and manufactured in such a way that the molecules are tightly packed, and less susceptible to oxygen transfer, resulting in better wine and beer!

Aside from it's advantages over glass carboy fermentors, the Better Bottle is relatively impermeable to oxygen.  This means that for your wine's or beer destined for aging, this is a perfect choice for an aging vessel!  When using the Better Bottle and it's accessories, the transfer rate of oxygen is lower than that suggested for Micro-oxygenation, and insignificant when compared to the amount of oxygen transferred through other bottles and their stoppers.

I move my wine with a vacuum pump. First attempt to rack and the vacuum collapsed the plastic bottle. Also be aware that the opening is much larger than the glass carboys and requires a size 10 stopper. On the plus side my giant funnel fits in the neck. So I will use these only during press.

Great Bottle
Much stronger than other PET carboys and way lighter than glass. Have 3, 5 and 6 gallon jugs and wouldn't be without them

light weight, crystal clear
I love these, with one concern. Unlike a rigid glass carboy, these can't be moved without replacing your airlock with a solid stopper. When a full Better Bottle is picked up by the carboy handle (or any other way), the volume changes and it either sucks in air and dirty water or sanitizer through the airlock and into your wine, or it spurts CO2 or even a little wine through the other way, often both blowing out and then sucking back in as you pick up and set down. Remember to swap in a solid closure, or use the 1/2" Better Bottle one-way airlock valves (no longer available from MoreWine?).

Great Fermenter
I have three of these bottles and love them. They are super lightweight, impermeable and easy to clean and handle. You can't use brushes with these or they scratch inside. Luckily, they are somewhat resistant to stuff sticking in them vs glass, but they can get gunky with aggressive fermentations. To clean out, I shove a small rag inside and add a cup of cleaning solution (PBW, etc) then, swirl/agitate the rag around inside to clean off any residue. Turn it upside down and pull out the rag with your index finger.

The one gripe about them is the size of the 6 gal. Its too small to use as a primary if you want to use the 5 gal as a secondary. In order to be able to use the 5 gal as a secondary, you want to fill it to the neck to minimize headspace. This means you need to start the 6 gal primary with 5.5 + gal in order to have enough to rack off into the secondary. This leaves inadequate headspace in the 6 gal primary for most fermentations. Because of this, I stopped doing secondary fermentations in the 5 gal better bottle and now use purged kegs instead.

works great
Much lighter than glass and easier to move around. Be careful not to scratch it while cleaning, also when moving it when it's full it can suck the sanitizer from your air lock into your brew
