Description

Are you looking for a nice, crisp, and cool beer for the summer heat? Morebeer! has got you covered.

This Belgian starts with a crisp pilsner base to build from and then it adds the floral, spiciness of Helga hops during the boil. To top it all off the beer has an interesting citrus back ground flavor from the blood oranges to make it the perfect thirst quencher for a hot summer day.  You can either choose a neutral yeast like Giga Nor Cal or you can choose from various Belgian Strains that will add various degrees of clove/banana flavor to the beer. If you know you like interesting Belgian beers opt for a Belgian strain. If you are thinking general crowd pleaser then go with Giga Nor Cal or White Labs California.

Recipe includes 1lb of Belgian Style Blood Orange Candi Syrup that is made in the USA from 100% cane sugar. As the reviews note the Blood Orange flavor is not overwhelming but does add a background flavor. We suggest you aso read the five star reviews for the Blood Orange Candi Sugar itself. It is always a fine line between having your beer have an artificial fruit flavor that jumps out of the glass versus a natural flavor that is blended into the beeer itself.  We think the latter is the case. If you think you want a more pronounced orange flavor purchase an additional 1lb of Blood Orange Candi Sugar - of course you are also adding residual alcohol as well. Beware this is an easy drinking beer that can sneek up on you!

For the greatest flavor impact add the Blood Orange Candi Sugar directly to the fermenter after high krausen has passed, or roughly 3 days into active fermentation.

Get your kit today and make a nice light beer that is easy to drink by the pool.

Liquid Malt Extract (LME) vs. Dried Malt Extract (DME)
MoreBeer! recipe kits are offered in both Liquid Malt Extract and Dry Malt Extract so that our customers can choose the format that best suits their needs and brewing style. LME is a viscous liquid, similar in consistency to maple syrup. In addition to being the more affordable option, many brewers find LME easier to handle than dry extract. DME is more condensed and comes in a powder format that is similar to baking flour. Although it’s a little more costly, DME is naturally lighter in color and stays fresher for longer. We highly recommend DME when brewing light colored beers.

I want to do a Belgian because the yeast is more forgiving with temperature. I've never tried an orange flavored one. Seems interesting.

Solid taste
Pretty apparent orange in the smell, with a bit on the initial taste. Coriander could probably be halved as it's an interesting flavor in a beer. It doesn't take long to get used to it, but that first sip is 'wth is that'?. Brewing is easy and straight forward, hardest part is the wait. Brewed mine with White Labs WLP500 Monastery (at least that's what I think I used, 4 different batches in one day...went fast and I don't remember much) If I make this again, I'll halve the coriander.

Great tasting kit.
This beer has a great taste with a hint of orange in the finish. Not too strong. A refreshing beer for after that hot outside job!!

Sounded Good!
Wasn't to happy with the out come of this one. Thought there would have been more of a Blood Orange flavor, nothing! If i ever do this one again, I'll probably get double of the candy syrup.

High hopes, but didn't live up
I liked the way this kit sounded, and I hoped for a brew that was a little different with the blood orange candy syrup. But this did not fit the bill. It is not that it is not drinkable, but it is nothing special. With all the other kits I have done, I get great comments from friends who try my homebrew, but not this recipe. There is no orange flavor at all, and it did not live up to my hopes for a unique tasty brew.
