Description

Helga is an extremely versatile hop that is very easy to work with. It can be used at any point in the brewing process adding a mildly floral and spicy aroma to your beer.  Helga actually is a descendent from Hallertauer so it has european lager heritage. Acreage started going up and there was a buzz around this hop as craft brewers started using it more and more in ales. Our Australian hop broker sold us on his opinion that it would be the next Galaxy.  Well, the hook is still in our mouth....  We are offering it at a great deal because we bought into the hype, bought a lot on contract, and then it never gained the same following. Maybe in part because whomever named it Helga should be removed from the marketing department.  Definitely not as sexy as 'Galaxy' sounds. Anways, still a solid hop that is super versatile and offers a nice spiciness. Plus the price is right.

This hop should be renamed as Helga does not inspire brewers to use it. With its heritage, I find this hop is a great change for recipes that call for Goldings variants. I put Helga in small Belgian beers, English Browns, Milds and even Bitters. It has a woody, earhy, herbal quality that makes browns taste like toasted bread and tea. A great hop that is suffering due to the 'citrus hops only' craze.
