Description

Instead of diffusing pure oxygen into your wort this system uses filtered air. The included air-pump pushes air through an inline sanitary filter which is then dispersed into the wort through our two micron threaded stainless steel diffusion stone. The advantage of an aeration system is that you never have to buy replacement oxygen tanks. The down side is that aeration takes longer than oxygenation. Because the atmosphere is only about 20% oxygen, the diffusion stone must be left running in the wort for approximately 30–120 minutes (however even 5 minutes of aeration is better than shaking the carboy.) There is no concern of contamination during this period, however you do have to monitor the fermenter periodically for possible over foaming. While you are brewing, this system can also be used to pre-fill fermenters with sanitary air. Replacement filters, FIL90, which need replacement every few years, are available for $4.99.

About the inline filters: There are two sides to the filter - an "in" and an "out". The direction you use doesn't matter, however, you want to take note of which way you first push air through it and always keep it that way. There is an arrow on the edge of the filter housing that we use to keep the air flow going one direction when using it. The filter should never get wet, so don't try and sanitize it by dunking it in sanitizer. If you want to clean the outside of it, use Alpet D2 (CL60). To store the filter, use a little tinfoil on the "Out" of the filter and store in a zip-lock bag.

The stone is attached to semirigid polyethylene tubing temp rated from -40°F to 140°F.

Does this come with the diffusion stone? If so, what size?
kyle w on Feb 1, 2022
BEST ANSWER: Yes. This kit comes with a 2 micron diffusion stone.
what size tubing does it have?
James D on Mar 14, 2021
BEST ANSWER: Tubing from filter to air stone is 1/4" (~6mm) ID, tubing from pump to filter is 1/8" (~3mm) ID to accommodate pump outlet. System works great!

Recommend, but needed some changes
I'm giving this 3 stars because the coaxial cable didn't seal well to the stone, so 75% of the air didn't get pushed through the stone even after cleaning. Maybe a rubber washer would help? I also had to cut the cable just to get it off the filter to replace. I got a new stone with ribs and tubing. It works way better. Overall, aerating with this device has dramatically improved my fermentation, but I had issues out of the box with this particular design.

Aeration for Wine
The device arrived on time. Used to aerate new wine (Merlot) on the day for pressing. Overall plan is to aerated10 gallons of must on medium toast French Oak for 60 minutes in 3 x 20 minute increments; day of pressing, at 3 months or 1st racking, and 3 months later at 2nd racking. Unless taste tells me otherwise. The first aeration went very well.

Worked like a charm.
Don’t let the size fool you; this little pump packs a punch. After I sanitized the stone and hose, I placed it in the wort and plugged it in. Worked like a charm. In just a few minutes I had this frothy head bubbling up. There’s just no way that stirring alone can aerate wort this well.

Attenuation is way up
I am finally seeing high attenuation rates on my yeast. I recently brewed an ale and nailed the FG. I was having problems in the past with my yeast dying out quickly and low FG and attenuation. I hit my wort with 45 minutes of aeration and my yeasties had a great time. I will be using this on every brew day.

Nice Upgrade
I had an aquarium pump and it gave me big beautiful bubbles that came up quickly and gave a cool effect. However, that is not what you want when injecting oxygen into your beer. You want tons of small bubbles that stay in the solution.

This is a great upgrade and I let it oxygenate my wort while I clean up and it is really nice...

Great aerated!
Yeast started right away with plenty of oxygen from the air. Not sure how brewed without it for so long.

Getting used to it
Would like to be able to take the black tubing off the air filter for sanitizing since you don't want to get the filter wet. it's really stuck on there. seems to pump enough air, fermentations going well.

NOT WORTH IT
Even though it looks and sounds like a good idea in principle, this did not work right from the get go. Right out of the box, i sanitized it, being careful to not touch the stone, put it into my wort and plugged it in. I could hear the pump but no air through the stone. So I took it out, boiled it for 3 minutes like the care instructions said. Put it into a cup of water and it worked. Put it directly into my wort and it worked! For about 2 minutes! Then nothing. I took the stone off thinking it might be the pump but there was plenty of air coming out of the hose. I don't know if I got a defective stone or what. I'm past my 60 day "no hassle" return period so I guess I'm stuck with an aquarium pump. I'm not sure if I want to try buying a different stone in case this one was defective or just get a paint stirrer for my drill...
