Wine Basket Press

A wine basket press is a traditional approach to pressing wine. Known for their durability and rustic look basket presses are made mostly of wood and cast iron. You press the wine pomace from the top using a ratcheting mechanism. Basket presses require more pressing force than bladder presses resulting in a more aggressive character in the finished wine from over pressing the seeds and skins. You will also need to re-pack and press the center portion of pomace several times. This is why we recommend using bladder presses, but if you don’t mind the extra work on slight increase in tannins our wine basket presses are sure to last you many season without an issue.
