German Beer Day or also known as Reinheitsgebot Day is observed in April and is to celebrate the the signing of the Reinheitsgebot “The German Beer Purity Act” in the year 1516. This decree was intended to maintain the quality of German beer and is recognized as one of the first food safety laws in history. Essentially the law restricted the ingredients in beer must Barley, Hops and Water. Sure they left out yeast, but in their defense its properties were not understood at the time. Either way, we salute them and raise a glass to German Beer!
