How to Use SaniClean for CIP Sanitizing a Unitank Fermenter
Proper sanitation is crucial for maintaining the quality of your beer and preventing contamination. SaniClean is an economical, effective acid-based, no-rinse sanitizer ideal for Clean-in-Place (CIP) applications. This guide will walk you through the process of using it to sanitize a unitank fermenter efficiently.
Materials Needed:
Step-by-Step Process:
1. Pre-Cleaning the Unitank
Before sanitizing, ensure that your unitank is free of organic matter and debris. We recommend using PBW (Powdered Brewery Wash).
-
PBW cleaning should be conducted at a temperature range of 100-140°F (or hot tap water).
-
Use 1 ounce of PBW per gallon of water (approximately 2 gallons, depending on tank size).
-
Let the CIP spray ball spin for about 30 minutes to ensure thorough cleaning.
-
Then drain and rinse the tank.
2. Preparing the SaniClean Solution
-
Add 3 gallons of water to your vessel.
-
Add 1 ounce of SaniClean.
3. Circulating the Solution through the CIP System
-
Connect the CIP spray ball to the pump system.
-
Begin recirculating the solution through the unitank for 30 minutes, ensuring all interior surfaces are coated.
-
Ensure the solution reaches all valves, ports, and tubing.
4. Draining and Drying
-
Once the CIP cycle is complete, drain the solution from the fermenter.
-
No rinse is required, but allow the unitank to drip dry before use.
-
Ensure all parts remain sanitary by keeping the unit sealed until needed.
Additional Tips:
-
A pre-rinse of your unitank before using any cleaning agent is highly recommended.
-
One option is to connect a garden hose to your CIP ball.
-
Ensure your tank is open to the atmosphere to prevent pressurization.
-
Briefly turn on the garden hose using mains water pressure to pre-rinse the tank.
-
Avoid excessive rinsing—about 4 gallons of water should be sufficient.
-
This step helps eliminate most large, stubborn organic material before proceeding with the full cleaning process.
Following this process will ensure your unitank fermenter is properly sanitized and ready for brewing. Happy brewing!
