Three Benefits of Kegging Your Beer

When you start using kegs in your brewery at home  there are a lot of tricks and conveniences kegs offer:


Lagering & Conditioning:
Kegging allows you to lager beer for long periods of time which allows your beer to age and naturally clarify.  The great thing about leaving your beer in an environment where its always kept cold and preserved under CO2 is it allows your beer to mature and reach its full potential.  The trick is not drinking it too fast so you don't miss out on what your beer cold have become.  

Dry Hopping & Oak Aging:
Our 5 gallon kegs have removable lids which makes them easy to clean and allows you to experiment with dry hopping & oaking your beer.  Dry hopping is the process of adding hops directly to your beer after fermentation to increase hop flavor and aroma.  We recommend you use one of our hop bags and about 2oz
of hops per 5 gallons to give your beer more depth in flavor and aroma.  The fifth element in making beer is oak.  Adding 1-2oz of oak chips for 8-15 days will add a whole new dimension to your beers.  Oak goes well with maltier and higher gravity beers.  Be careful not to over oak your beer.  Always taste your beer through the oaking process and you will be rewarded.

Filtering and Fining:
Kegs allow you to use them as 'bright tanks' (A vessel that is used to clarify beer).  Before carbonating, a brewer can add a fining agent like gelatin to
drop out all of the remaining yeast that might be in suspension after primary fermentation is complete.  This process takes 3-4 days to clarify. When your beer is ready to transfer to your 'serving tank' you use your CO2 to transfer from the Beverage Out of Keg#1 to the other Beverage out of Keg#2.  You leave behind all of your yeast and now you have clear beer to drink or take to a party no problem.   You can also use our plate filter system to speed up the process.
