Description

Formerly known as VQ-15 Wine Yeast

RP-15 is a recently isolated Californian wine yeast strain that was selected from spontaneous Rockpile Syrah fermentations by Vinquiry in collaboration with winemaker Jeff Cohn. RP-15 wine yeast is a moderate rate fermenter with average nitrogen demands. Due to its' ability to develop a structured yet lush and balanced mouthfeel, RP-15 is ideally suited to making rich, concentrated reds. Initial winemaker feedback has indicated that RP-15 does well with emphasizing varietal flavor and red fruit character. In addition, with careful hydration and nutrients, RP-15 delivers good mineral and spice notes to wine. RP-15 is recommended for Syrah, Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Best results from 59 to 90 degrees F, with an alcohol tolerance to 16%.

What's the best yeast for concord grape?
FRITZIE DELINCE on Sep 24, 2023
BEST ANSWER: Sorry, Fritzie, I don’t have experience with Concord grapes. If you want to emphasize fruit flavors in the wine I would imagine Rp15 Rc-212, or Premier Rouge might be good choices. If you need structure try D80. Another good yeast, even for red wine, is D-47. It (and Premier Rouge) are robust, reliable, and don’t give any trouble. I like not having fermentation troubles.

Exceptionally good yeast with amazing results in Cabernet.
I used this in 2018 for my Cabernet and it just keeps getting better. The wine was good from the start, but after 5 years in the bottle it's fantastic. Amazingly smooth, great mouth feel and it's almost black. Highly recommended.

Rockpile
I’ve tried many wine yeasts & Rockpile is a favorite. A reliable fermenter that provides fruit and smooth round mouthfeel in Nebbiolo.

Very satisfied
I recently used this yeast to ferment Cabernet Sauvignon and Zinfandel grapes. Both were about 14.5% abv and finished at .994. Very happy with how the yeast performed and though it's still very early they both retained huge color and the flavor and mouthfeel even now are good.
I also used this yeast on a berry mead (photo attached) fermented with the skins from the Cabernet, again around 14.5% and it finished cleanly and with an intense flavor. Since this is my first ferments with this yeast I have to see how the final products will be but so far I'm very happy with RP15 and I'm sure I'll be using it again in the future.
