Description

Yeast across the World have a new best friend, the OxyWand™.  Insert the oxygenation wand into your fermenter and pump in thousands of microscopic oxygen bubbles for 1-2 minutes to improve the health of your yeast. Healthy yeast produce amazing flavors and have the stamina to completely finish fermentation.

That is not the only reason yeast love the OxyWand™.  Yeast hate to compete with bacteria and you hate to drink them.  Sintered stainless stones are made of tightly compressed stainless steel powder to create a porous block through which oxygen can flow. This micro maze is also the perfect environment for bacteria to live in after the stone has been used once in wort. That is why we love to boil our stones prior to use.  The stone on the OxyWand™ is connected via a 1/4" flare fitting and can easily be removed and cleaned after use and then boiled before your next brew day.

The assembly is 26" long and will easily reach the bottom of glass carboys, dropped into stainless conicals, Speidel fermenters, etc. The 0.5 micron size stone is designed specifically for use with compressed oxygen tanks. You will want to use 1/4" tubing. See the recommended regulator below to connect to disposable style compressed oxygen cylinders available from your local hardware store.

The advantage of using compressed oxygen to oxygenate is speed - you can oxygenate your wort in 60 seconds as opposed to 5 minutes with aeration. This .5 micron stone can only be used with compressed oxygen because an aeration pump does not supply enough pressure. If you are looking for an Oxywand to use with aeration pumps please see the 2 micron version.

You can't reproduce without oxygen -- neither can your yeast.

I've been using the same stone with tubing but have struggled getting it near the bottom of the fermentor. This seems like a great idea.

I like that it can be broken down into pieces and cleaned easily, unlike some where the wand is welded to the stone.

Do I need to buyanything else? If I get the O2 tank at a hardware store will this connect to it or do I need to buy connectors etc?
Christopher Howe on Mar 31, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Yes--you need a regulator for the oxygen bottle and tubing to connect the regulator to the wand. There are many kinds of regulators, a typical one is something like this: https://www.morebeer.com/products/oxygen-regulator.html If you want to see other options, go here: https://www.morebeer.com/category/wort-oxygenation-aeration.html

Small red Bernzomatic oxygen bottles seem to be MIA in most home improvement stores, and maybe forever? Any suggestions as to a different source of oxygen?
Skip Chilcott on Dec 11, 2022
BEST ANSWER: if you can’t find those. Go to your local weld shop. You can get larger 5lb or 8lb bottles.
Do you sell replacement gaskets that go between the stone and the tube flare? Seem to have lost mine during cleaning, now O2 escapes from between the flare and the stone no matter how tight it is.
Russell Myers on Dec 11, 2021
BEST ANSWER: Yes we do have these. The part number is KEG602.
What type tubing is used for this product? If you carry it please provide a link.
Victor Siedleski on Nov 12, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Uses 1/4 inch tubing. Great product. Strongly recommend.

Works excellent, much easier to add oxygen to your brew with the wand, much better than rocking a 6 gallon carboy

It's OK, but very restrictive.
This item works ok as long as you're connecting it to a large O2 cylinder; it doesn't works well at all when using it with the small O2 cylinders and the screw on regulator. They don't produce enough pressure to really drive the O2 through the stone.

not right...
This is the only item that I've purchased from MoreBeer that is poor quality. The flair on the tube is just not right. Any small bump causes O2 to leak from the MFL or the stone just falls off. It's also very difficulty to put the stone back on once you take it off.

Lastly, threads are a big problem, but without taking the O2 hose off you can't clean the nut on the bottom. And if I have to take the O2 hose off, it would be just as easy to boil the entire wand and you don't need threads.

Good idea, but it needs some refinement.

a useful and well-made device
this is another well-made MoreBeer product. It solved 2 problems I frequently encountered: detaching the aeration stone so that I can confidently sanitize it, and letting me confidently get the stone to the bottom of the fermentation vessel. When I used a vinyl hose, I was never quite sure if it was at the bottom. A nice plus is that the stainless steel tube holding the stone is easier to clean than a vinyl tube.

Convenient; easy to sanitize
This is the 3rd gizmo I've had to oxygenate wort and I like it the best. I had the prior MoreBeer wand, but the head wasn't really designed for easy removal (although you could remove it). I also had an inline oxygenation setup, which would oxygenate the wort after it was pumped through my plate chiller. It worked fine, but was more hassle to set up, clean and use. This improved wand is the best of all worlds, because it's easy to use and also to sanitize. Plus -- versus an inline oxygenation setup -- you can use it in the fermenter after the fermentation has started (like within the first 24 hours for a wort and a little longer than that for mead).

I use it for worts with an OG over about 1.065, which is most of what I brew. I'd definitely recommend it for high-gravity worts.
